Am I the only one that thinks Young would always have Foreman's number?

Timmers, in defense of Gil, he didn't think much of the speedbag either, he explained it as his ruse just to get George away from the heavybag. My fault, I didn't explain it correctly. As for Sadler, the bug up my arse with him was that he simply didn't expose George to any styles other than guaranteed wins. An old Chuvalo, a prospect in Kirkman, clubfighters in O'Halloran and Wepner and a 35 year old lightheavy in Peralta. All pretty much the same styles. I was just a kid watching him blow out another no-hoper in Ted Gullick and after the fight Sadler spouting proudly how they are going to "take on" Miguel Paez next because he holds a technical win over Oscar Bonavena. Again, I was just a kid, but I screamed at the old black and white TV set, "Why don't you take on Bonavena?!" I know Foreman was very raw coming out of the Olympics - just watch his final against Ionas Chepulas (spelling) - but bowling over these guys don't help one learn much, it's exposure to different styles and ability to alter plan A when things goes awry that can hone a fighter. And I just feel Dick Sadler was the culprit here.

Foreman was hot as hell in '76, but after stopping Pedro Agosto in early '77, Foreman fell back to his old cockiness and started doing things in training that he wanted to do.... By the time Foreman arrived in Rico to fight James Young, Foreman was outta focus and not ready for the heat and humidity.........

Point is, under different circumstances, Foreman beats Young.........

No. Young never really had Foreman's #.....

It's not like Young had any advantage regarding the heat and humidity.
What about Young countering Foreman easily? Surely his speed and counter punching ability makes a difference in this fight. Foreman, at his peak, wouldn't be able to hit Young flush without being countered.

I had Foreman ahead after 7 rds........... Foreman was the ring general up to that point....... However, Foreman ran his tank dry---again, and dropped the decision....

Foreman was too tense in the 70s and had poor stamina........

Had Foreman been better trained (Foreman was 229) against Jimmy Young and in an air-cooled arena, he'd have stopped Young inside 10 rds......

Look....... James Young was NOT a great fighter in an overall sense....... Young was hot & cold........ He won a few bouts that made him look good in the boxing world, but, he also choked in some fights that hurt his rep........

I remember his early 80s comeback after his KO loss to Cooney, and some fans were wetting their dreams again.... I was NOT! I knew Young was going nowhere.........

Okay. but we're talking about the Young that fought Norton, Lyle, Foreman, or Ali. Any of these versions would beat Foreman.

Only the Foreman who was 229 pounds and un-focused in March of '77....

Foreman of June 1976 up in New York lookin' to pound Frazier again was in top form, even though Frazier was not......

Foreman lost his mental edge from 1976 to March of '77.......... After the KO over Agosto, Foreman fell back to his old ways...... Bad move...

If you look at the beating that Cooney put on Young you'll know that Foreman would never even floor Jimmy Young. The only time that happened when he was green and he faced Shavers.
Jimmy Young is to cautious and durable to get knocked down by Foreman. Yeah, he might get hurt, but he knows what to do once he's hurt.
Foreman DID have him hurt at one point, but Young re cooperated. Why didn't Foreman finish him..? I'm not sure. I think Young is too good for Foreman. He's a terrible stylistic match up and a terrible fight for Foreman, any time.

I remember reading an interview (of sorts, an article at least) where Young described his preparation for the Foreman fight as a "fight for his life". He'd wake up in cold sweats dreaming about fighting Foreman, put all his heart and soul into being "perfect". This is one of those white hot moments in Young's career as a spoiler.

Now on the other side of the fence Foreman was trying in vein to get an Ali rematch and was under the assumption that if his victory looked a little sloppy he'd get that shot and then get in complete shape for Ali (if it happened).

The match went down in which Foreman did look sloppy in the humid heat, and I'd have to watch very close as to judge whether it was his work or the heat, perhaps both. However, not to mention (or forget) a sharp as hell fighter coming in with complete determination to defeat the larger Foreman in Jimmy Young.

The fight resulted with Young victorious and Foreman finding God in the locker room as his body gave into dehydration.

    Quite the crossroads match here.

I thought Young stunk as a fighter......... But, okay, he did have defense..... His jab was alright at best..... Young's power--sucked...... His chin was good prior to 1980......

I never cared for Young the fighter / boxer..... Just too stinky..........

I can't really think of a spoiler that would look good, I know what you mean though.

I like Young and am a fan of his but I don't think Young would always have hs number especially the outta shape Young. Prime Young beats Foreman all of the time though. He was too smart for Foreman.

Lol. It's okay I know what you meant before and yes I think prime Young takes it. He got ko'd by Shavers due to bad management but came out with a controversial draw in the second fight which many believe Young won. I wanna see those two fights & the Lyle-Young fights so bad.
