That fight, for some reason, doesn't feel like it would be close; it feels like it would be one-sided. I think Crawford is like a kryptonite-style fighter for Mayweather. He's smart, has excellent reach, is a southpaw, and is very advantageous in clinch. Most importantly, while Mayweather is considered the smartest fighter, Crawford is an equally very intelligent fighter.
Well I won't say easily, cause Floyd had very high ring IQ and excellent skills. He'd be very caucious vs Bud, and there would be many close rounds. But Bud definitely is one of those boxers who can beat Floyd.
I would have given the edge to Floyd before this fight, but I’m leaning towards Crawford now. Mayweather would likely never have taken the fight though.
What is obvious for anyone: Bud is certainly a physically stronger man and a far harder hitter. That would play on his side.
Could he beat him? Maybe but nobody is beating Floyd easily. Mayweather would be the rightful favorite.
Floyd has never lost to anyone easily in his entire boxing career and that goes back to even the amateurs. To say Crawford beats Floyd easy is to downplay his skills and abilities he brings to the table.
Would it surprise me if Crawford beat Mayweather at 147/154? No, because he has the physical attributes, instincts, and skills to possibly edge out a very close one. Crawford would beat any Mayweather from the first Maidana fight onwards. That said, both in their best forms at these weights and I'd favor Mayweather in a competitive, clear decision. And honestly, rewatching Mayweather-Canelo, there is a clear gap in skill level and reflexes when comparing Mayweather and Crawford.
