Am I the only one who thinks Cotto should skip his last fight and retire?

Mad Respect to Cotto.. I was just wondering if anyone else saw what I saw.. I saw a different body type, an exhausted fighter.. Figting backwards, yes he won and shut out Kamegai a human punching bag btw.. But I think in doing so he looked older, he couldve knocked this guy out if he wouldve fought in the middle a bit more kinda like what Mosley did to Margarito.. Cotto was going backwards the whole daamn time therefore the punches didnt carry full power...At certain points he looked dead in the corner and was breathing like he was extremely winded.. I dont know I feel like its over.. As a fellow puertorican and cotto fan I think at this point he gets steamrolled by the likes of, Canelo, GGG or even Lemiux.. I dont know maybe it was the long layoff but I saw somthing there.. Maybe Im wrong... Hate me me all you want but I think hes done.. At least at the elite level.. Well deserve retirment should be his goal.. Good luck to him

I think he always gets steamrolled by them 3 to be honest..I think your right though, I don't want to see him against GGG Canelo winner. Guaranteed stoppage loss at this stage after all hes accomplished would not be nice to watch

Well, I agree, even though I think he fought an incredibly great fight vs kamegai. He was the wisest cotto I've ever seen in the ring and he proved to know the sport like few people know it. It's a pity that when finally the fighters know the sport in such a deep way they have to retire because they are old, but that's life. But let's be honest, kamegai is nothing special, you can even call him a bum and you will not be completely wrong, I don know if cotto can stand elite oposition now, I doubt it.

I think that cotto deserves a good retirement, that he deserves to retire not receiving a beating. I would like him to retire now, so that I can remember him as the champion he is. I dont want to see him badly beaten and think "F, if he was younger.... ".

He was in great physical shape for how much he was moving and how many punches he was throwing (70 per round) to keep this guy off of him. But he did look like a weathered fighter to me. It may have been the layoff, but he looked soft around the midsection and he's looking slower of hand and foot now.

I was kind of hoping he would retire in the post-fight interview. I hope he takes the easier routes for his farewell fight in December.

i agree. the power was lacking
    he should go to 47
    finish there.
if he has some pop left, he should fold thurman easy

Agreed. He looked slow, was breathing harder than he should have, and seemed to push his punches rather than snap them. I made a comment in the rbr about how this fight was at a lower weight than his previous few, but somehow he looked fatter. Hopefully just the long layoff.
With that being said, who are realistically some possible opponents for him? It'll have to be someone light punching. Maybe another welter.

Cotto looks like the same guy who blasted Martinez and came up short against Canelo.

Nobody knocks out Kamegai. He is 154lbs of hard rubber.

It would be stupid for Cotto to come forward against a guy like this. Cotto is completely at ease boxing going backwards. He dominated the fight with his jab, combos and counters. Beautiful stuff.

Cotto has another massive payday left in him against Canelo v. GGG winner. (then a goodbye payday against Brook or Khan in MSG if he wants in)

He's got another good win left in him. But he needs to stay away from 160. He's too small for those guys. Brook would be a good fight. Marquez and Bradley would have been good.

This isn't crazy. Cotto is past having anything to prove in the ring, if you ask me. That said, I didn't think he looked bad against the exact style that is worst for him in Kamegai. I get the feeling that Miguel's kept most of his money so it's not that? I dunno'... if he wants to fight, I'll watch, but were he to retire, I could completely respect that.

I always want fighters to retire sooner rather than later. But Cotto is nowhere close to the point of endangering himself. He still has more in the tank than I would have thought a few years back that he would. Tough to say but really there isn't much he can do for legacy here without taking on a big gun (Golovkin, Canelo) as a big underdog.

You really think that he has a chance against Keith Thurman if he has some pop? Danny Garcia had pop and it did him no good.

I've been a fan of Cotto for a long time. That being said, I thought he looked slow and shopworn on the night. I cringed when they called out the winner of Golovkin v Alvarez. I think he should leave now, but he'd be leaving a lot of money on the table.
