He was bad enough on espn and making bad wrap videosatsch I'm sorry but I think Larry Merchant needs to be back and not just for "after dark" it was bad enough when Foreman left Max needs to go back to his "wrap" career
Truthfully I don't like Max Kellerman or Larry Merchant. If I had to choose between the two I'd go with Larry though. Kellerman is too biased in his analysis and he prefers defensive boxers big time.
kellerman looks like a rabid chihuahua those pop eyes stickin out. I think he graduated from the Eugenia Williams acadamy of boxing coz he know as much about the sport as she does ABSOLUTELY NOTHIN
dude, how many threads do we need devoted to how much Kellerman sucks? We're all agreed that he blows and we're writing e-mails to HBO...
I didn't like Merchant all that much until people started saying he was going to get fired. I dunno why but I kinda like him now. I like the old-schoolness in him. He won't give in and if he believes in something he'll let it be known.
:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl How true! Kellerman is not only the worst commentator in the sport, he's also the most unqualified. Alone among boxing commentators, Kellerman never worked as a boxing journalist, or was a participant in professional boxing. He is utterly unqualified to be a commentator at the flagship network of boxing. The sum total of his "qualifications" for being a boxing commentator was hosting some rinky-dink cable access show in NY!! Oh, that and his old man's connections to Bill Cayton and other powerful people in boxing! And it shows in how little insight Kellerman has into the sport. HBO is the flagship network of boxing, and it should have the BEST commentators - someone like Al Bernstein for example. IF you want HBO to get rid of Kellerman, send them an email at www.hbo.com/apps/submitinfo/contactus/submit.do?title=HBO%20Boxing&questiontype=hboboxing
I dont really give a **** about him. Lary is better, of course, who is better than Lary? But whatever, he knows his ****, hes kind of annoying but hes a smart guy.
I think a lot of people here are focusing on the fact that he looks like you may want to punch him in the face. He's very enthusiastic, he asks the real questions, rather than going on a tangent with an anecdote; he does need more time and like wine, you'll grow to appreciate him. Change is good, and Merchant has shown that he's losing it.
I dont agree with that at all. He's completely intelligible, and if you actually listen carefully to his metaphors and anectdotes they are normally very insightful.
I agree that the metaphors give the broadcast a "classy" touch. But what I wanted to hear after the fight was: 1. Are you calling Mayweather? 2. What do you say to those that may say that Castillo was shot? And Kellerman managed to ask both questions and Hatton answered clerverly too.
