Change may be good, but Kellerman isn't the guy to replace Merchant. He is probably the worst commentator I've seen in 30 years of following the sport. There are PLENTY of good commentators out there that HBO could get if they anted up the cash - guys like Al Bernstein or Steve Farhood for example. Hell, even O'Grady would be a better choice than Kellerman! Send those emails if you agree! www.hbo.com/apps/submitinfo/contactus/submit.do?title=HBO Boxing&questiontype=hboboxing
Most of these commentators are ******* bums and the ones that aren't are, at best, either journeymen, gatekeepers, fringe contenders, or contenders. I can't even think of any current ones that hold world titles and the only hall of famers and ATGs that spring to mind are Manny Steward and Larry Merchant, the later because he was funny, had a nice turn of phrase and was a walking quote machine.
I liked Max back when he was just a boxing analyst. Then, somehow, he went mainstream when he really doesn’t know anything about other sports. Now, he acts like he’s the star or whatever and his opinion is always the correct one. During fights he’s trying to correct everyone and after the fight he gets on his high horse. Had enough of him. Unfortunately there aren’t many good ones out there. All the boxers they get are braindead, biased, or both. Whatever, usually thee announcers only get my attention in a boring fight anyway.
I think he's one of the best out there along with Farhood. He's always had the habit of putting his opinions out there and obviously that leads to him having some hindsight quotes that are questionable.
No you're not alone, most knowledgeable fans can't stand that pretentious pseudo-intellectual douchebag.
The smarmiest most grating person in boxing. Stands shoulder to shoulder with Barry McGuigan in my book !
