He sure could teach his charges better defense. Either it's something he's doing wrong technically, or it's one big failure to communicate.

    Overated or Shot?

Quite possibly though his main claim to fame was Tommy Hearns who lost a fair few back in his heyday. Steward had success with Lennox Lewis but Big Len would often seemingly ignore Manny's pleas to "get this motherf**ker" outta there" and take a more poised approach.

Manny has spent some years as the hired gun - brought into change fighters fortunes and to a large extent it has worked but with him always helping out different fighters he has moved away from what made him successful in the 1st place - the day to day running of a Gym.

Infairness I would say that Lee was guilty of being naive and the macho element in fighting clouded his judgment and he went looking for the big shots all the time - which were landing. The fight had similarities to Haye vs Thompson and Lee seems to have the talent to be able to comeback stronger.

Iv posted a thread on this before. Manny always blames the fighters or someone else when his proteges dont do well.As a trainer iv never seen what the big deal is.

As of late it seems to me that Manny acts more like a fan than a trainer. he is always telling his fighters to go for the KO even when they are well ahead on the cards and can box easily. he seems to care more about his fighter looking good than winning the fight.

I agree and have thought this for a while. Also Freddy Roach is overrated and Buddy McGirt is too.

Marquez' trainer, Nacho Beristain, and Floyd Mayweather Sr. are top class no doubt

After last night, I might have to agree. I posted on the 'live' thread I was starting to see 'taylorisms' in Lee.

Yeah...he strikes me more as a celebrity promoter and boxing establishment figure than a day-to-day trainer...

HE IS SO ****ING OVERATED! He just picks tall strong fighters who already have a great amatuer background. For example. Lewis, Klitschko, Oscar, Taylor, Lee, Hearns. See the pattern? All big for their weight class and stiff jabs. And stewart Sucks like a mother ****er at commentating! Biase as ****! he needs to go away. So is the rest of the HBO crew except for Max. Max is the only one who pays any attention of whats going on in the fight.

I always thought Steward messed taylor up, and was so glad to see him improve his last fight. I'm a person who believes with stick with what got u there. But i dont understand why people blame yoel judah. Zad is the one who doesn't seem to be focus looking in the crowd. Thats his fault

I don't know about McGirt. It seems as though many of his fighters have been taking L's lately. However, he usually has the inferior fighter. Overall though, I think most trainers are overrated. Obviously, a guy like Mayweather Sr. is top notch. However, many trainers are just taking the glory for some other guy's hard work.

I agree, he shouldn't do that and take the glory from fighters. He's is great in my opinion also. But he still wont be the difference when floyd beats hoya.
