he's a one dimensional trainer. he teaches his fighters to fight on the outside using jabs and one-twos. when it comes to in-fighting and defense, he's clueless and so is his fighter.

That's a good point. Do you think any of this has to do with him training so many tall fighters?

No. it's the opposite. He trains tall fighters because he trains them to use their height. That seems to be all he knows. He would never be able to train a short fighter like shane mosley or zab judah.

I dont think that Steward is over rated. I think that the problem with Steward is that he only really has one style. and instead of him training a fighters style he always try to change the fighter to his(Stewards) style. He fuked up Hamed doing that, he fukked up Taylor doing that. On the other hand he made Lewis an ATG, and he has improved Wlad.

    Why?

Because Wlad was already "made", Banks almost got knocked out by Castillo, Cintron impressed no one against Feliciano and Lee got stopped by Vera?

Hmm ... maybe he's overrated. Maybe his boxers will impress in future ... we'll see.

I think he's still a good trainer. Not the best ... but good.

Yes, he is obviously a little overrated. I think joe goessen is the most underrated trainers, very cerebral and a great motivator.

    1.)Nacho

    2.)Freddy Roach

    3.)Enzo Calzaghe

    4.)Joe Goessen

    5.)Steward

Good points. It brings up the question though, why is Manny so interested in "projects"? And why do Steward and McGirt "trained" fighters seem to get so rattled come crunch time? Some of that HAS to be the trainer's fault.

I have thought that Manny was overrated years ago.

Is this guy just the luckiest guy alive who happened to stumble on some great talent? Or did he just get old? Or a combination of both. Whatever, he's overrated right now and i consider him irrelevant.

every great trainer has a bad year.

This year - Steward (but i think nacho is tied with him)
    Last year - Roach
    The year before - Mcgirt

I think Tom Yankello is underrated, he often has the underdog, and his guys always fight hard.

Steward has been bad since he took on JT. And his commentating is getting worse and worse. The guy's just too old. His time is up.

I think you could be on to something. Look at Lewis, Hearns, and Wlad. All schooled to do such things.

And even yesterday, the ESPN crew were commenting on how Lee seemed to know how to use his height well. But they also commented how he doesn't seem to know how to fight inside or clinch up.
