Am I the ONLY ONE who thought Cotto did quite well?

I had cotto winning this fight.....Canelo landed the harder shots but Cotto scored in other areas....I score a round based on many things not just power shots

Cotto had a good showing, but too small, too old, too weak at that weight.

If Cotto was even sized and punched with more authority he'd have won the fight for sure.. but in the end Canelo's shots were hard and strong.. they mean more.

Close fight, but a clear Canelo win.

Cotto did box well. Canelo's power and work to the body was clearly bothering him. It was a close fight, and Canelo's youth and size certainly played a role in the outcome.

I agreed with whoever said it during the fight that Cotto's jab usually has more of an affect on guys. Canelo looked really big in there compared to Miguel. Cotto doesn't belong up at that weight IMO. He was already maxing out in the 154 weight class to me.

Yeah no way is Oscar better all-time.. his losses to Shane are hard to get over.. as I don't actually rank SSM all that high as an ATG.. he was an extremely limited fighter, who was roided up yes, but still no where near the same level of other ATG's.

I still rank Oscar higher, but those losses especially are hard to overlook..

I didn't think either of them looked very good TBH. Cotto was just too small and Canelo acting ****y at times was just stupid. I didn't even stick around to watch the final couple rounds.

He did good, but he lost the fight. I really thought Cotto was going to take this fight. I was wrong. :/

Prime, undefeated Shane was the only man to beat prime Oscar and in doing so he beat him by one 10-9 round, in a fight where Oscar had a stupid gameplan and kept coming at Shane instead of boxing him, like he did in the rematch he handily won but was royally robbed.

That same prime Shane, would have been a nightmare for prime Floyd, make no mistake. Floyd has never fought close to the caliber of fighters prime oscar or shane were. That said, oscar beat better competition than Floyd did, easily. Floyd only has Corrales, Castillo, Hernandez, and a faded Pac.

Oscar has UNDEFEATED PRIME Hernandez, undefeated for years prior but faded Chavez twice, p4p #1 in the world Whitaker, prime undefeated Quartey, prime, undefeated Trinidad, roided up Vargas, and roided up Mosley in the rematch. Albeit corrupt judges gave trinidad the W and Mosley in the rematch the W, any non biased fan knows oscar won both of those fights with relative ease.
You can say floyd beat Cotto, but Oscar beating Mayorga, Oba carr, etc is on same level at that time.
Only thing Floyd has that Oscar doesn't is the 0. But Floyd doesnt have nearly the quality or volume of big fights oscar had.

This is why Oscar is greater than Floyd:

Cotto's frame is too small for modern day LMW. He's 5'7, a mere 67 inch reach, just a small frame overall.

Canelo needs to move up to middleweight, I heard he was 173lbs on fight night. The dude needs to have a more honest career and move up now.

But yep, Cotto's jab does have some power behind it. A good tool in his toolbox.

I was rooting for Cotto and thought he got outclassed.

Canelo did an excellent job of slipping and parrying Cotto's jab which rendered much of what Cotto was trying to do offensively as ineffective.

Much closer fight than the scorecards suggest but I thought it was a clear 7 rounds to 5 or 8-4 win for Canelo. Kind of like the Morales/Pacquiao fight was competitive but was clear who won.

I hate that Cotto is such a sore loser. Pretty much every time he has lost he storms out of the rings, never gives an interview until weeks later, and always claims he was robbed. I just get sick of his attitude. The whole catchweight stuff for everyone or his fights, thinks every one has to cater to his demands like he is the greatest. The guy is just delusional thats the only reason I was wanting him to lose

Spot on. Cotto's movement and combinations looked good but were more for show than anything cause he was pretty much rendered ineffective buy Canelo's defense.

Good fight. I had Canelo winning.

Canello is very good defensively and offensively on the inside/mid range, leans back and counters well and has good timing and accuracy. Upper body wise he is a very capable technical boxer. Where he lets himself down is not throwing his jab enough and his feet. He is to plodding and doesn't really attempt to cut the ring off. This wasn't a major problem against Cotto as it was against Lara as Cotto is not a back foot counter puncher. Cotto does back up and use lateral movement, but this is more to get away from danger, get his distance and then launch his assaults which he does coming forward. Because of this Canelo was able to time him coming in. However, cutting the ring off is a technique that Canelo will need to learn as he could come unstuck against future opponents.

Cotto did quite well and Canelo didn't do so well. Both need to get out from 160 where they can be beaten not just by Golovkin.

I didn't see a great Canelo defense like several commentators here are describing. If anything, I was kind of impressed by the way Cotto frequently had Canelo swiping at air, or the way he rode and deflected shots.

I wonder if this is an effect of the HBO commentary. The people who watched HBO thought Canelo dominated the whole way and was some kind of defensive wizard, while the people who watched other streams saw Cotto giving a good performance and possibly winning.
