Am I the ONLY ONE who thought Cotto did quite well?

I saw a big improvement from Canelo better defense, more relax, more confidence and mature, patience picking his spots his body looks like granite a good ****nal of punches the upper was a beauty he's getting better as a boxer-puncher.

Cotto won. Canelo is just the next great white hype.

This is a big flaw in his game that I just wish he takes time to develop. He has to be sufficient at least, Mayweather is a better stalker than Canelo lol. It's as though he sees himself as the finished product.

It's not just cutting the ring off for Canelo, but to become at least 'adequate' when pressuring, he needs to evolve and develop instincts in combat when dictating the fight. Canelo loves to respond and is very good at that.

This will mean he has to even change the way he's used to punching, i.e telegraphed.

Will he take the time to learn like a scholar, right from the roots level? I don't think so.

Yup, this is what I think, hence why I'm hearing scorecards of others that are like 117-111 as if it's reasonable. This can only be down to HBO commentary influencing a fight that's pretty hard to score anyway...and for others, an unclear stream lol.

Few general thoughts, for what it's worth:

    * I had Canelo winning 7-5 but will watch/score again. Feeling throughout the fight was that Canelo seemed to land the better shots most of the time, both to head and body.

    * Canelo still struggles against guys who won't stand still in front of him.

    * Canelo could use the jab more to set up other punches/combinations.

    * It seemed to me like Canelo thought he was just going to walk through Cotto. Didn't happen and he didn't have an alternate strategy other than just trundling up and throwing bombs.

    * Cotto had the right plan and it worked fairly well, he just didn't have the speed, evasiveness and/or power to truly take control. It was probably the difference between him making it a competitive fight vs. being busted up and maybe being stopped.

    * The size difference was ridiculous, in my view. Something has to be done about these guys blowing up by 15-20lbs overnight, especially if one guy is significantly outweighed come fight time.

    * At this stage, I think Golovkin busts up Canelo en route to a decision.

    * Cotto could go around again but should probably go back to welterweight. I think he's still got some mileage left at the lighter weight but should leave the 154lb+ guys alone.

    Huh?

    Dude.

    You picked Cotto to win.

How can you be underwhelmed with Alvarez winning?

"Underwhelmed" is relative to your personal expectation.

To you, Canelo put in an "overwhelming" performance.

EDIT: Unless you are talking exclusively about the entertainment value of the fight itself.
