Am I the only one who wishes Shane had fought Berto first?

I know the boxing world breathed a collective sigh of relief when it turned out that Mosley became available to fight Mayweather after all (despite the tragic circumstances behind that availability).

The "Event Fan" in me is happy that it we'll probably see the biggest welterweight fights we've been praying for this year in Floyd vs. Mosley and Pac vs. Floyd, but the boxing fan in me actually preferred that Mosley fight Berto first.

What we would have gotten was an impromptu welterweight tournament where the three superstars of the welterweight proceed to clean up the division, with Pac taking down Cotto and taking out Clottey, Mosley trying to unify part of the championship against Berto and Mayweather taking on a solid welterweight contender, possibly in the form of Cintron. Mosley could then prove to a sizable number of doubting fans and analysts that he's still an elite boxer, and not simply lucky that he got matched up with his ideal stylistic opponent. Beating a fast, prime, rising welterweight would have raised Mosley's profile even further and silenced all but the most cynical of nay-sayers in the lead up to the Mayweather fight.

As it stands, should Mayweather dominate Mosley, I fear there will be a large contingent who will pooh-pooh the victory by saying that it was never clear how much Mosley had left given he hadn't fought in 15 months, his last victory was against a declawed opponent tailor-made for his style, and his two fights before that ended in defeat and a surprising struggle to victory. In many ways, Mosley needed that Berto fight to validate his credentials as the #1 welterweight in boxing. It also would have sharpened and prepared him for Mayweather's speed.

In addition, it would have continued to add clarity to the welterweight picture by including all of the top welterweights. What will happen to Berto now? If Mayweather beats Mosley, does anybody expect him to fight Berto? If Pacquiao beats Clottey, and then goes on to beat Mayweather, does anybody expect him to fight Berto? And so that leaves Berto out in the cold, quite possibly watching a golden age of welterweights pass him by right in his face. We will never know exactly how good Berto is because we'll never see him against the superstars that are right there with him.

Am I the only person who wishes the original (speculated, not confirmed) plan were kept? Pac vs. Clottey (Pac wins), Mosley vs Berto (Mosley wins), Mayweather vs. Cintron (Mayweather wins), Mayweather vs. Mosley (Mayweather wins), Pac vs. Mayweather.

I definitely feel like it would have give me a better context to put a potential Floyd victory over Mosley if he had fought Berto. But I'll take what I can get and this isn't that bad. The really big loser here is Berto. A vicotory over shane would have put him clearly inthe picture, now he'll be very hard pressed to get into the game like you said before.

I ask because it seems most people were really happy that the Berto/Mosley fight was canceled, and I felt I was in the minority in not being happy about it.

I just think Berto is irrelevant at this point. Hes an up and comer and hasnt really done much to deserve a shot at a legend like Mosley. Mosley is an ATG who unfortunately does not fill seats because he does not have a huge following. The only reason he was fighting Berto is because hes too much of a risk/low reward for fighters like Pac and Floyd. Berto needed to rematch Collazo, cause the Urango fight proved nothing.

My fav WW are PBF, Shane and Pac man so when Berto fell through I was happy that Shane and Floyd could get it on. I would have loved for Shane to have a tune up to ensure he was at his best but F0ck it, that can't happen so lets go!

Yes of course people act like if he doesnt fight Berto he cant fight Floyd. Berto would have been tonight and that gives Shane 13 weeks until May 1st. Thats enough time for a guy on a layoff as it is.

When will people be ****ing happy with what theyve got?!

Floyds just agreed to fight in many peoples eyes his hardest test and where still moaning.

Actually, i think i would have preferred Shane clearing up the whole welterweight division first and then fighting mayweather, but even then hes too old. I just cant work it out.

    STFU noob

No you're not the only one.

    Mosley-Berto end of January AND
    Mosley-PBF May 1st.

    Would have been perfect.
You're not a boxing fan if you think otherwise.

well shane deserved the fight, maybe berto as a warmup since he has not fought in a while.but when you make mega fights i say **** the warm up fights.you never know whats going to happen.look at the jones vs hopkins 2 ! rjj ****ed that all up and they still gone fight.

mosley stays in god shape and he finnished a traing camp for berto fight, he will chill for a few and get back into the gym getting ready for mayweather.so he will have a double train camp which i think will help him alot.

This should be a no brainer if you like boxing...

    Damn the question is:

Would you prefer one super fight?

    or

one good fight AND one super fight?

    :tired
