Im 17 i started boxing about a year ago. I've been in a few different sport a couple at national level and i can tell you right now that theres no reason at our age that you couldntbe top level. What it takes is dedication, hard work, persistence and yes some talent and natural ability, the truth is some people aren't built for certain sports. If you totally dedicated yourself to getting better you could definitely be good.

However, from my experiences the type of people who get on and in fact when i have done well at a sport (or in fact anything in life) i've been very busy not asking questions but getting on and doing something; because you could sit here for two hours researching whether 'you can get good' or you can get to a gym or club and start working on your fitness and your basic techniques.

I have a limited knowledge of boxing as just like you ive recently started but what im doing is training, going every single week as often as i can, i ask questions, i work hard, i take all the opportunities im given and thats what you need to do if you want to get good at ANYTHING.

So in conclusion if you REALLY want to get good (which in all seriousness i somehow doubt) get off of the internet asking silly questions and go for a run, work on your jab or just do something that will help you improve.

I was put off boxing by my father around 16 years of age. He warned of all the dangers and gave no positives at all. I don't think I was cut out to be a special talent, but I started sparring and boxing training much later on (28, from memory), and was told I had very good power by an experienced trainer. I was by then, a bit too old to start.

I really regret not pursuing boxing at 16, through a lack of self belief. The chances are I wouldn't have been a champ, but even to have had 20 fights would have been a story to tell the kids. My answer is try it; give it everything and you will know after a while if it is for you. Don't be put off if it's incredibly hard at first; nobody is born boxing, it is a learned skill.

And it's great, isn't it? If nothing else, you will be super fit.
