Am rewatching Calzaghe vs Lacy

I picked Lacy to win that fight too, Cal just seemed hesitant to challenge
himself.

 

You would have thought such a one sided pasting would get boring over a long period of time, but it doesn't. It's probably because Joe has him beat in every single department. Speed, style, accuracy, toughness, strength, ability, ring craft, punch variety, chin, fitness, fighting on the outside, fighting inside, going forwards, on the backfoot, punch power and all round arse kicking ability.

 

Despite I was never sold on Lacy, I admit I picked him over Calzaghe and that is only because I never saw a Calzaghe fight before that.

Lacy was made for Calzaghe..not just saying that because the outcome was so one-sided..but to beat a man like Joe you need BOTH power AND speed..Lacy had a big lack of the latter goin into that fight with Joe and the result speaks for itself

 

I never get tired of watching this fight. The Eubank fight is also a good watch.

 

Agree 100%. Lacy is a warrior, but his corner should have pulled him out.

 

He landed 2 or 3 of his bombs as well and Joe just shrugged them off.

I remember the video package that they showed before the fight in the UK. They were hyping Lacy up so much he was like an even scarier Sonny Liston! He was walking around the gym/ring looking like a meaner Tyson.

I remember watching and thinking that Joe was in trouble. Owned.

 

Calzaghe made Lacy look like a journeyman !!
