Paul may be the GOAT boxer from a capitalism POV. From a sporting POV, he is awful for the present and bad for the future for the reason you have stated. Im a sports fan. I dont celebrate people for their monetary riches.

    I love the top response:
    • My grandpa had Muhammad Ali
    • My dad had Mike Tyson
    • I have Jake Paul

Jake Paul should fight Floyd. Floyd had a draw with Logan Paul.

I don't much like Jake Paul as a person but you've gotta give this guy credit. He's technically pretty exceptional for his level of experience, but more than that he seems to have a legit warrior's mentality - more so than a lot of pro boxers I see these days. All the more impressive considering he came into the sport already owning silk pajamas (as Hagler would put it).

Sure he's an arsehole, and of course he'd likely be stopped by the first actual boxer of a decent level (not Tommy Fury) that he comes across, but his level of mental fortitude is quite admirable imo.

The fight was horrible to watch but that was a KO Of The Year contender.

He seems like a good man, I'd say he's really a 'boxer' posing as a 'YouTuber' though, a great way to lure people in to watch, which in turn is good for the sport.

Well, the exact quote was that "he showed....some...nuance'" by feinting downstairs with the jab to set up the right hook. Given the tone in which it was said (you could hear the pause) it was definitely more a compliment delivered in the spirit of the holidays, rather than appreciation of the nuance itself.

Honestly, wasn't a bad set-up at all, and that right hook was pretty well delivered. Say what you will about JP-and I don't have much to say, personally-but that was a pretty nice shot.

Hey, Yan Pellerin has a minor belt at the weight, and is looking for an international fight of note to end his career. Wonder what he's up to in 2022?

I think some people are taking these too seriously. They are sideshow attraction fights that have a reasonable degree of intrigue (can a novice boxer beat ex UFC fighters in a boxing match... it's interesting)

It allows Jake to learn on the job in fights that still generate interest and money.

Let's stop pretending that most boxers are fighting respectable competition in their first 5 fights.

It's a circus attraction. He's learning on the job. His opponents are not bad relative to his experience level (especially when you consider he signed to fight Tommy) and it provides some cheap thrills on a Saturday night and an aesthetic KO.

    Idk...

And that's bad because? Don't be so sentimentalist. The sport won't care, it's not sentient.

I'm a boxing fan with respect for the sport, I'm expressing my gripes. Deal with it.

It is hands down KO of the Year. In fact, it's one of the greatest and most violent KOs I've ever seen.

Listen to the sound of that shot

No, you are absolutely right. I'm no fan of the kid, he's a shitty person. But he's got 5 fights, between amateur and professional. Pro fighters fight complete crap at first, and I'm sure at amateur it's even worse. He's got little experience. 5 fights between amateur and pro is nothing.
