i kid u not. this is huge man. a lot of people may find this bad, but, this will make boxing more huge i think. more corruption, to follow yes. looks like amateur boxers will get paid now. fighters already in the pro ranks can compete in the AIBA for the 2016 olympics. they r even dropping the "amateur" label. They're going to start sanctioning pro fights by the sounds of it. It has Don Jose's panties in a bunch and he's calling for opposing dictatorial ruling. like he should be ****ing complaining about arbitrary rulings. I imagine they'll still be sanctioning amateur competitions, but be divided between pro and amateur competitions. If it's on an international scale, one organization to govern boxing ala FIFA, and it pisses off the sanctioning body douchebags, then go for it.
Remove the head-guards and the points system to make it more like the old days and I'll start watching the amateurs again.
I can only conjecture how to work out rankings. You'd probably have to match up national champions to make continental to make international/Regional to build up to world shots. It'd take a while and there'd be less championship fights (which like it or not, titles add to prestige to the casual fan). But honestly, with how promoters like to run things, I don't think it would work until more old guard types die off allowing the newer promoters to step up because they'd probably have to all agree to abide by IBA(they dropped the A apparently) regulations. And really, it'd be easier for them to just throw money at a sanctioning group and get their fighter a belt. So really, it comes down to what promoters/fighters in the US will be wanting to work on an international level and get American Boxing back on top to everyone, pro AND amateur level. That's my opinion at least.
3. Goals Enhance and create three major properties under the AIBA umbrella as core development and commercial assets: o AIBA Amateur Olympic Boxing (AOB) o World Series of Boxing (WSB) o AIBA Professional Boxing (APB) Redefine all different rules into a single, integrated system controlled by one governing body Launch a Boxing Marketing Arm (BMA) to lead and manage all commercial properties Develop a massive grassroots foundation to sustain a continuous high level of production of boxers Upgrade the global image and reputation of Boxing and AIBA to take the sport back to its “Golden Age” those are part of it's "Boxing 16 plan" to govern all of boxing. I'm reading them now but I thought that was interesting.
Headgear is going away for "elite level" competition, so probably olympics/world championships. If you start in Amateur IBA competitions, you can transition to APB, the professional arm. THAT is what allows Professionals to compete in the olympics, because they've fought their career under the IBA umbrella. You can also fight Amateur and parlay that into a WSB team, so not unlike going pro from college ranks I would guess.
"APB should have the following 3 different divisions: I. World Ranking Competition a. World Ranking #1 – 20 (20 boxers) in each weight category b. 10 Rounds for Ranking Competitions c. 12 Rounds for all Title Matches II. Continental Ranking Competition a. World Ranking #21 – 50 (30 boxers) in each weight category b. 8 Rounds for Ranking Competitions c. 12 Rounds for all Title Matches III. National Ranking Competition a. World Ranking #51 and below in each weight category b. 6 Rounds for Ranking Competitions c. 10 Rounds for all Title Matches" Damn. I nailed how that was going to work.
