First Frankie Gavins incredible world championship victory then James Degale beats the Olympic Champion.. Amateur boxing is as strong in GB and Ireland as I can remember it since i've been involved in the sport. Any thoughts?

Lots of money pumped into the Amateur game in the last 18months, a sports minister who believes it should be back in schools, Sky's mid 90 take over and boxing "idols" in Hammed, Lewis, Calzaghe & Hatton to rival those in other sports have all played a huge part imo. Put them all together and we have increased participation, envanced training equipment and (possibly) most importantly high goals to aim for.

A good period for boxing in the UK is ahead.

Exciting times for some of our amateurs - competing at the Olympics in Beijing must be a dream come true for the likes of Frankie Gavin and Joe Murray.

It's an exciting time for English amateurs but a lot of amateur gyms have closed down in Wales which is very sad.

North Wales is a completely different country! It's an extension of Scouseland.

But it's sad. With everything that's going on with the Calzaghe stable, surely it's a great time to use the populaity to get young Welsh kids with nothing better to do into the gym.

Let me also mention young Scott Cardle from the Blackpool area... won the national young sportsman of the year award. What a cracking little fighter won and lost with the excellent Jack Arnfield and definately one to watch.

Let's hope the BBC don't give them a multi million pound deal straight away huh.

The BBC are said to be following the progress of our young amateur boxers ahead of them competing at the Olympics so, if they do well, hopefully the BBC will continue to show their fights.

Think the BBC are also broadcasting coverage of the English ABA's in May.

Higher % of welsh speakers up North than darn sarf, especially in the Caernarfon / Anglesey districts.

Funding is still poor in the Welsh amateurs, adn if people think the English Am's and BBBOFC is run by old fuddy duddys they should see the Welsh set up. Terrible imo.

    Me :good

Can't see why this can't be done, doesn't have to be on a prime time slot or even on a main channel (BBC 4 or something) and imo the BBC should atleast show this (they have the excuse with pro boxing that its too costly but the AM's wouldnt be, and with them showing the olympics it would make sense)

defo good to see as its the graasroots for all of us, a big well known club closed down over here which was bad to see but we gained with the opening of another big club in the south city, which years ago was a very well respected club until the government ****ed them around and scumbags burned the place down, irish am boxing is doing great lately esp the previous olympic games and the next we have high hopes if barnes stays am and katie taylor too
