Anybody have any idea why there's a Britain squad and a Wales squad? There's a welsh fighter in the British squad so all seems a bit strange.
Did the Welsh ABA split into two parts some time ago...?? :think I might be wrong where one part of it will recognise the British ABA's and the other part soley deals with just Wales.. I am happy to be corrected on this as I am only going off what I think it is....:yep
Yeah, would love to know the Wales team! England team (thanks to ishy): · 48 kg Tommy Stubbs (Oldham) · 51 kg Khalid Yafai (Birmingham) · 54 kg Luke Campbell (Hull) · 54 kg Andrew Selby (Barry) · 60 kg Tom Stalker (Liverpool) · 64 kg Scott Cardle (Lytham) · 91 kg Stephen Simmons (Edinburgh)
Love that... all those big cities and then tiny little Lytham.... Keep an eye out for this lad. He going to do very well. 64 is a bit light for him and I doubt he has the exp ness at this level but in the future he is going to be a star.
out of all them guys i seen Khalid Yafai impresses me the most very talented young guy. Definitly a prospect only about 19 aswell. He impressed me the most out of the ABAs or whatever Setana showed. Out of all the fighters i thought he was the best. good to see a Scottish Heavyweight doing reasnoably well, i didnt know we got Heavyweights in Scotland
You're speaking of the W.A.B.F, which was a breakaway boxing federation started up in the mid 1990's. It was a bit of a disaster really and turned out to be fairly short lived, and it's all back to being one organization now (the original W.A.B.A) There has been a court case between the main protaganists of the W.A.B.F and W.A.B.A running that was concluded just last year. I don't know the specifics ins & outs of the ruling, but I know the W.A.B.F crew lost out big time and have been ordered to pay a lot of money to the W.A.B.A.
is this even gonna be televised? i know the beeb used to do it through the red button option before, but have disgracefully abandoned it in recent years. i remember it being on sky when frankie gavin won gold in chicago, maybe it'll be on sky? this ain't a strong team we're taking this time though
i think sky broadcast last time because of the olympic qualifying angle. i'd be suprised if any brit channel picks this up this time. maybe one of the european or american channels will show some of the fights
great to see steve simmons name as captain of the team,a cracking big guy who will make it as a pro if and when he turns.
I did hear that the 2009 finals would be on the BBC. In 2001 the BBC screened the Worlds from Belfast. In 2008 it was scheduled to screen the Europeans from Liverpool, which were meant to take place in March. The date was changed and nobody told the BBC! There was a plan in place to make every fight available. Highlights of the Worlds from Thailand in 2003 were screened. In 2006 the BBC screened highlights from the European championships in Bulgaria. There was no British TV coverage of the Chinese Worlds in 2005 or Chicago Worlds in 2007. Adios.
