How do Felix Savon and Stevenson do against the following heavyweights from the 30's? Jack Sharkey Max Schemling Max Baer Primo Carnera Jim Braddock
A little bit of info on Savon's amateur career... "Savon defeated every single contender thrown at him including famous names like, Danell Nicholson, David Izonritei, Luan Krasniqi, David Defiagbon, Michael Bennet, Sultan Ibragimov, David Tua, Christophe Mendy, Shannon Brigs, Lamon Brewster and many others."
They were only proven against undeveloped amateurs. There's no way of knowing how well they'd have done against seasoned professionals who they don't out-do in the physical departments.
Well, they both showed crushing power and pin-point accuracy, which wouldn't be any less effective with their opponents wearing headgear.
Given them both a few 10-12rounds for them to aclimatise themselves to the distances and tighten them up to the pro game and they both go onto dominate, we are talking about 2 very very special boxers here. Obviously throwing them in the deep end from 3rounders to 15rounders without more experience could be a disaster but I wouldn't write them off against any even then
Maybe, but who knows ?.......Greg PAge was a great amateur fighter, but not so good in the pro boxing....... Professional boxing is very different, the great difference is the pace of the fight......And only that is a huge difference.....
true..and the scoring is different...even 30 years ago it was different (though not as different as it was in the recent past) so you end up developing a more am style.
I'm going with the pros.If they had built up the experience, I would honestly say Stevenson and Savon, but that is not a given.Hell, Stevenson couldn't even get by Igor Vysotsky in 2 different fights, so I'm inclined to feel he wouldn't do too well.
