great find...I love the amateurs it shows a lot of a fighters strengths and weaknesses because you are forced to fight the best and many times before the other fighter is known.
Great thread. :good Jake LaMotta 1939 National Diamond Belt Light-Heavyweight : [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkAE9pJ3UEk[/ame]
I'm not going to lie the Pryor Hearns match was epic ..And they weren't even pros yet ..I just saw that vid for the 1st time and may have watched it 10 more times since . I would have loved to see them 2 go at it as a pro ..
Yeah, it's nice (and somewhat unexpected) to see LaMotta so compassionate and concerned about his opponent. He was a much more ruthless animal as a pro, (and outside the ring too) - and it got results (in the ring at least!).
1998 Olympics [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mn6aw6nR_yc[/ame] You got Jones Jr,Carbajal ,Bowe ,Mercer .
I think with the return of tournaments in the pro's we'll see a lot more occasions where, in certain divisions, the best will take each other on. In the old days it was the nyasc or nba who set up the tournaments. Now it's the tv companies so whilst it aint always the top ranked guys it's still the best we got. I mean surely at bw we have to see donaire take on darch and agbeko. We have to see mikel or bute take on the s6 winner. We saw hoya unify with hopkins. But sanctioning body tournaments are really poor these days. The latest ibf one is shocking compared to tournaments of old.
Nice thread. Some very impressive footage thus far. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbyQLEyrqv4[/ame] Here he is against a fighter who I think is the current trainer of Brandon Rios. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWBBhH8PjYM[/ame]
