Amateur World Cup just completed...Cuba & Russia dominate

Hell outta that list of names, I think I could pronounce three...

 

The Cuban's and the Russian's dominate, well there's a surprise.

 

Yeah, I'm here.

The World Cup was in Russia, not exactly surprising they dominated with the Cubans; they're usually the strongest amateur countries anyway. The only American was Michael Hunter, who boxed for the first time since April and was invited because AIBA likes to have at least one American there.

 

None of them made the top 8 in any weight and I think the Brits all signed pro contracts. The only ones we had in the top 8 were Wilder and Andrade and they're both pros now.

Christ, saying that reminded me what an ugly Olympics this was for the USA.

 

That kind of surprises me. Maybe after the fiasco that was the scoring at the Olympics this year AIBA is having their judges change their critetia; I know a new scoring system is on the way along with the new rule changes. Speaking of those; do you know if they used 4x2 here; or did they change to the 3x3?

Do you know why Yordenis Ugas didn't compete here? He's the 60kg guy from Cuba who got Silver.

the phillppines have a horrible amateur boxing program this is shocking to me.

 

Seems like it was Tanamor that won in this tournament. A bit too late to perform after bombing in Beijing.
