I spend a lot of time on the gyms and I have to say that in the last 2 or 3 years I seen an increase of talented boxers wanted to be flashy and look good rather than consentrate on boxing fundamentals....I will say that they all want to be PBF like....and they win on the local competitions but once they face a boxer of equal skills they are not prepare to handle the opposition.... PBF might be flashy but as a boxer, but he also is a perfect boxer when it comes to fundamentals...and that's what this kids are failing to see...it is no mistake why the resurgance of Euro boxers, since they concentrate on fundamentals, not the flash but the essence...
Everyone wanted to be like Mike - but not many knew the many hours of practice and training that he puts in - to get the results that are seen by Millions. It's the same thing with Floyd. Most people know how hard he trains - but more than most only see the results and not the sacrifies that were made to get the talent and skills that he has. I understand what you're saying - but some people have to learn the hard way.
The problem is that the coaches and trainers encorage them to follow that flashy style rahter than breaken them downa nd built them right from the bottom up....it burns me.... You talk to the trainer and he will reply: Well he is winning the local competition , or he is rank on the state..and I tell them ..Just imagine where they would be if they only have solid boxing fundamentals...rather than relying in pure physical talent
IT's not the fault of the kids in the AM ranks that are not learning the fundementals....its' the coaches! Coaches should TEACH the kids the fundementals of the sweet science and over time find out what style works best for them! BUT...only after having a soild foundation to work from. Kids will always want to be the best and mimic the best who happens to be the flashy and flamboyant Money May.....unfortunately Floyd understood the basics and fundementals that were instilled at a very young age which shows up anytime he enters the ring for a fight.
