What amateurs would you like to see turnover into the Pros? For me the number one choice is Robeisy Ramirez. A lot of people hate the Cuban style, but he is just one of those fighters that can do it all and is like 23! With the sort of names in the weights he'd probably go in at (Frampton, Loma, Shakur Stevenson rematch, Gervonta) there are some huge fights there. Unfortunately it isn't as simple as that for the Cubans! There was also the young Joahnys Argilagos who I think looked really promising too. Another cuban, but in an amateur thread Cubans will always be on it! I'm also quite a big fan of Niyazymbetov and Julio Cesar La Cruz, but I imagine a lot on here hate La Cruz due to the defensive boxing. I've not seen too much of them, but seen them mentioned a few times on threads here.. the HW's Hrgovic and Levit who I'll be trying to follow more going forward!
levit - would be an amazing addition to the packed cruiser division. hrgovic - turning pro , big good skills and durable, big potential buatsi - great solid fighter fan friendly style, will find it hard at 175, i could see him coming up short yeleussinov - very complete fighter right time to turn pro, id like to see alimkunaly go pro too. savon - big talent and with he's experience he should be in big fights right away la cruz - overly defensive, i think he would look a lot like ndam as a pro, would either be a huge success or a terrible failure. nistor - pitbull , could be a boogeyman in the heavyweight division ward - tough one, great skills but poor stamina and is lazy and undisciplined. Mixed signals, you hear one week he's going pro, staying amateur the next.
Agree all round. La Cruz is an amazing talent but his overly defensive style can induce sleep over 3 or 4 rounds, I sure as hell don't want to see 12 rounds of that lol. But he's such a talent that I'd still like to see him turn over as he would be a great addition to an already stacked 175 division. It would be intriguing to see how he'd fair against some of the top pro LHWs.
Other than the ones who are already about to turn pro . Ramirez and La Cruz would be the best in their divisions. (If Ramirez doesn't fight in Loma's weight
i agree, i just have a feeling he will end up taking heavy punishment, he doesn't seem to take a punch well when they land
I think his chin is a bit questionable too. Could be another P4P entrant into the Cuban Glass Hall of Shame lol
I have to agree, although I actually like Cuban boxing I think La Cruz can be too defensive at times. I don't mind it when he's taunting the opponent tho and showing absolutely unreal reflexes! That's why I really like Niyazymbetov. La Cruz seems to always get the better of him, but Niyazymbetov actually chases the fight. He has really good footwork too looks so natural the way be bounces around, I wouldn't be surprised if that's genuinely how he walks haha
He has the reflexes of a mongoose lol Niyazymbetov is an excellent fighter too. That said, I still hold a grudge against him for beating Gvozdyk in the Olympic semi-final. I feel Gvozdyk got robbed in that one. But he would be another great addition to the LHW division if he turned over as he's very talented.
My bad I wasn't a member back then and never seen it, Just had a look and it's a great thread! The Cuban, Lopez at 75 he was really good. Rio was first I'd heard of him and he looked like he had amazing power, could make for an exciting pro but unfortunate we'll be lucky if we get 1-2 of that 16 squad in pros haha
I'm 90% sure that none of them would turn pro. Arlen Lopez is a complicated boxer, he struggled a lot to get to the national team and always seems to be just a regular boxer in national competitions but he sure has a great all around game and is the hardest puncher in amateur boxing. He is also a great switch hitter but he has lost twice this season in the WSB and I don't think he can repeat that gold from 2016.
