Do you think that fighters who have had accomplished amature careers tend do have poorer defenses as they have put so much effort into landing punches that they have neglected working on a good defense. Amir khan would be a brilliant example, of course there will be exceptions to this theory. What do you think?
i think sometimes their defence is very good in fact, they are usually great couterpunchers who arent easy to tag clean, if it effects anything i'd say sometimes inside fighting and adaptability have been found lacking (if it becomes a war of attrition they dont know how to switch off from signe shot pointscoring mode), lack of bodypunching can be an issue as well
I agree with all you ha stated in addition to my original post, I suppose there are many pros and cons.
I'd say their biggest weaknesses are.... Bumrushing in Poor punching technique Crap jab, hooks and uppercuts Useless on the inside Understanable really, considering the amateur scoring system doesn't reward any of those things listed above. Just throw as many straight lefts and rights as you can and hope the judges have twitchy fingers over your button.
yeah think i read some where there changing the amature system for olympics, no head gaurds and no computer scoring trying to make it more like pro boxing wonder if it will filter its way across the whole of the amatures ?
I wouldn't get rid of the headgear but it would be good if they found a way to change the scoring system so that it brings the amateurs a bit closer to the pros, how they do that I do not know.
Just switch to the 10 point system. At least it gives the judges chance to watch the action and score it, as opposed to having to push a button all the time. It was only changed because of a blatant bent decision in 1988. Just ban whoever was responsible (preferably permanently) and move on. You could kinda understand a bent decision in a little interclub show, but in a high profile sporting event you'd at least want to make sure you got it right. It can't exactly be swept under the carpet, can it? The only thing the Korean kid did well was stay in there and not get KTFO.
can i ask why would you would keep the head gear as it can sometime hinder fighters, the scoring i think there are doing it similar to the pros not certain though
Why would you want fighters to be riddled with scar tissue and possible brain damage before they even go pro?
Good. To be honest I don't really follow the amateurs too much, haven't done since the last Olympics. Does wearing a headguard protect against brain damage? I'm sure I read something that stated that it doesn't really help.
They would be less likely to get cut or swelling, which prevents drop outs in tournament where there is a quick turn.
