No doubt it doesnt povide a huge amount of potection but it would definitely blunt some of the force of punches. Ive neve really heard of amateurs suffering from severe bain damage or anything. I could be wrong though.

    Heres the article anyways

Another thing about headgear is that it protects the "true" amateur, who has work on monday morning, because his career isn't subsidised by a national olympic board. I'm talking the guys who don't necessarily dream of turning pro, that just want to fight at weekends for love of the game.

The scoring system is what really needs to change, to reward a greater range of styles. The current system makes you fight in a very narrow style to be successful.

When I used to spar we had these head guards where the sides were like normal head guards but the front was covered with plastic. It looked more like a helmet than a head guard, but it's a good thing because I was taking so many jabs that if it wasn't there my nose would be really crooked.

I have boxed before, and still am boxing. Head guards are uncomfortable to wear fair enough, they still are necessary imo. You dont think hey prevent cuts no?

cuts from head clashes definitely. Where do you get most cut? the eyes and its hard to land completely flush on the skin of someone eyes with a headguard on so they definitely help against cuts. Less protection against damage to the brain though but still some

I'm not sure they are - they tend to be negative and constantly wait on their opponents. Great counter-punchers draw the lead.

A study in the late 90s found that head guards offered little protection against brain damage and were actually more dangerous. The most common report was the reduction of peripheral vision.
