Rocky didn't like Ali + he thought about a comeback against Ingemar Johansson. He also looks like James Gandolfini in this interview. The best heavyweight ever and a real intelligent guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFUJ3KDjrlI

Thats amazing! I didnt know up to that point in time Rocky had the shortest reach of any HW Champ. Great Interview!!!
very intelligent man and articulate speaker. Marciano is known for heart, stamina, power and will to win but he also had a high ring intelligence. The fact that he figure out a way to get inside with power punches against some very clever boxers shows that he was more than a slugger in shoot-out like he was vs Rex Layne ......I dont think we will ever see another Marciano or another Fitz, or another Langford,Chonski, Tyson ( only had 2 inches in reach over Marciano at 70 inches) but you never know, it is a rarity but happens ....
Wow, what a great interview. The guy speaks so clearly and honestly about the sport and himself. When he realised he couldn't get back to what he was he simply walked away from a comeback. Good insights too on Ali, realising that he needed a great opponent to make him be all he could. I can forgive him saying Ali hadn't been hit hard, Our 'enry might have disagreed!
I like that he's very careful about what he says, and how he says it. Always qualifying his remarks. Obviously a couple of his opinions -- Ali's religious and political views -- have since gone out of favor. But note that he approaches them in a fairly moderate way. (Confining his critique of Ali's beliefs to a marketing issue rather than whether they were "right" or "wrong".)
Great interview! Thanks OP! I've never heard Rocky speak, so this is a nice coup. He seems very smart and incisive.
This appeared on an iconic Australian show called World of Sport that was on every Sunday morning from the late 1950's to about 1987. The show was legendary for it's personalities and the informal style the program pioneered in Australias fledgling television industry. The bloke interviewing Rocky was Ron Casey who was the shows founder, producer and host for the shows entire run and was also a massive boxing fan and patron as well as a very good (if somewhat parochial) fight caller. This interview is still remembered and going by the quality questions and the super impressive responses Marciano gives I can see why. Brilliant stuff.
Nice interview. Rocky just said what he honestly felt. I do know that he liked the $ that Ali generated for the game. Rocky loved that part of it. Marciano was on the radio during the pre fight of Clay/Liston and he said "this kid sure makes $". They did become friendly later on during that computer fight.
