Martinez was told he was the backup plan the whole time. Martinez was training to fight a tall lefty before Pavlik pulled out. So it wasn't like Martinez only had a month to train.
I agree, if there is one thing more impressive than his perfomance against Williams it's definitely the way he takes in the controversial aspects of the sport against him. EDIT: I don't remember where but I also read what Reg is saying about Martinez preparing for Williams before Pavlik pulled out.
Man you know that was simple yet so deep. A lot of these "pros" look like guys who swing by the boxing gym 3-4 days a week after their 9 to 5. Especially American heavyweights!!!
