Actually....This isn't your typical hypothetical matchup thread at all. Dedicated to all those boxing fans with the disheartening habit of daydreaming of matchups between thier favorite fighters of different eras, long deceased, decrepit or forgotten... and always arriving back to the same point.. that those fights will never happen. I urge you to reconsider your despair..... and reconsider if they truly can happen ------------------------------------------------------------------------ It's 2015, subatomic and quantum phycists have secretly made breathrough at CERN with sending matter to previous places back in time and back to the present. Eventually they were able to send The first scientist back in time small amounts. They progressed to larger and larger and evnetually These expeditions are done for weeks months and years. This time machine... it works. Eventually the most ambitious trip is set... The date chosen was December 2, 1980. They can't just send an unmanned object, there must be a human there to operate, it is too complex to be automated. So again a scientist is chosen and sent only for Level 1 access to 1980... meaning no interaction with other humans in this time as much as possible. When he is gone, he is set to arrive back within 2 hours (which is approximately 2 weeks in 1980 time scientists calculate). After the 2 hours have passed.. The time machine returns in a timely fashion... but scientist are floored when an old man in a suit comes out. At first they think it is thier colleague but they grossly miscalculated the time distortion, they are relieved to learn instead the person who comes back is Cyrus Vance the US secretary of state in 1980. ------------------------------------------------------------- Its Dec 2, 1980.... Clint Brown and Paul Baker two Australian pro boxers welterweights are headlining at the South Sydney Junior Rugby Club, in Sydney Austrlia that night. Its the middle of round 3... Brown fighting is rope-a-doping Paul Baker, laying the trap for a big right hook which Bakers guard was susceptible for. Baker was hitting on his arms trying to break through his guard. He dipped down then pushed hard with his back foot and shot a big right at the guard of Brown which had been where his chin would be.. but in that split secont Brown dropped his hands and his expression changed.. his eyebrows went up his body relaxed and his mouth dropped open. Bakers right hand landed BOOOM Clint was SOCKED right on the chin. No reaction. He wasn't wobbly, he didnt raise his hands he wasn't even looking at him. Baker was disoriented and he sensed there was a murmuring taking place in the crowd. Then he heard one lady in the audience let out a high pitched shriek. Everyone was focused at something behind him in the ring he turned around.. in the middle of a boxing ring... a machine that looks like a lunar lander is come in and out of fruition like a TV channel that has an antenna with a bad signal. All of a sudden it takes solid vivid form as real as you or me and is clearly resting on the canvas. A hissing noise.. a latch open... and a man emerges. He is a scientist from 2015. There was mass pandemonium.. government officials were called and the scientist was taken into custody in 1980. The footage of that was sent to major news outlets and broadcasted around major news media channels around the world. Noone takes it serious... it is attributed to being a hoax. After Australian intelligence agencies debrief the scientist he is handed over to the CIA and president Jimmy Carter had allowed Vance to be the one to be sent back through the machine to interact with the future. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Back in 2015... scientists noted that in the anecdotes Vance provided thier has been minimal interaction from the scientist and no consequences have changed in the present. It is agreed to send back in 2015 along with another scientist and an unofficial government official with the United States is consulted and sent over. Over time more trips are made. Allegiance is established. Scientist are careful to monitor and conclude that nothing changes in the present despite plenty of interaction in 1980. But permission is not given for Level 3 access of 1980 by the head of CERN, with the committee debating the common sense concern that the present can be negatively altered if too much by presence and alteration of that time. But underhandedly, Emory Verigo, one of the angrily ambitious scientists on the project despises the 'cowardice' of old men stopping the progress of science. In his spite he exposes the project, on youtube, twitter, and instagram. The world is taken by storm. Riots take place. People want to visit thier dead loved ones and go back to happier times. World leaders meet on how to explain and handle the exposure to thier citizens and what to do about it. Back at CERN...scientists theorize there are multiple threads and planes of time running concurently and thier for the present will be unaffected but they can't prove it. Meanwhile Carter has consulted many world leaders in 1980 on the project, including the Communists. There is a dispute. Between the governments 1980 and 2015. Because they were not prepared for the amount of exposure in 2015, there is too much pressure from world governments to test the time machine to Level 3. World leaders sign the Time Travel Responsibility Accordance. Scientists agree to push the envelope but they first need to establish the first one... the first comprehensive visit between 2015ers and 1980er's en masse. With huge affect and influence from thier actions in 1980's. They must get data on how interacting with a current past affects a current now. There was hundreds of different possible ways to do it.. but in the end one was selected when Vance traveled back to his own time with a 2015 envoy.. the first ambassadors from another time. And In that TOP secret meeting between the first intertime negotiators, the scientists present thier agenda, and a satisfactory agreement is reached on how the comprehensive visit would be conducted, with a hint of symbolism thrown, because of how the chain of events began.. Thier would be a night of boxing... for the ages. It would solve the conundrum, allow the massive yet controlled exposure scientists desire, and be a small charming tribute to how all these events began in the first place in a boxing ring in Sydney Australia. It would be A triple headliner. The purpose would be global exposure of the selected 2015 fighters in 1980 so scientists can study the effects all they wanted. Broadcast across the globe. World leaders from 1980 agree as long as the governments are allowed to keep the funds from the advertising and fights which would be the bigget most financially lucrative sporting event in history til that point. 2015 agreed to this as long as they were allowed to provide complete global exposure for the citizens of 1980 of footage of the fighters chosen, provide complete promotion for the fight and informing them of the truth of the events. They ensuring the majority of the world would be affected by this so they could study the consequences if any. The 2015 fighters would also get paid appropriately of course. The best of one weight class vs the best of another. After all the drama it was finally decided in Camp David with President Jimmy Carter and an Envoy from 2015. The boxers were chosen from both times... but not yet informed but the fight plan starts to take place.
