It's difficult to imagine, yet the mistro connected with so many of Australia's finest moments in boxing has reached 100 years. Passing away 20 years ago is insignificent, as Palmers name and the names associated with the great man continually frequent our own imaginations and the game in general. 100 years a legend.
Good call. There's been some good write-ups around the place honouring the great man too. See in particular the one in the recent FIST magazine, or this excellent piece that provides a rare first hand look at the great man: http://members.westnet.com.au/zelky/terrygrinsted/ambrose.html
.........Fred Henneberry is to become of the same age next year. Bloody amazing how much these blokes impacted on the game. Richards/Carroll/Palmer/Henneberry.. I wonder if the Oz scene has ever, or will ever experience the same fortune again?
I remember reading about the great Greyhound, "Black Top" In one particular classic race, Black Top was responsible for 17 of the 24 semi finalists & he his protege came 1st & 3rd in the final. Ambrose' "Method" will live on in similar fashion. Stance, balance, & defence in well schooled gyms will have a little bit of Ambrose,, ad infinitum.
This video of Ambrose working with some young pros is priceless, and the 'best supporting role' of course is played by none other than ESB poster 'Tigerofold': [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlHjnp19yS0[/ame]
CHB... I have some colour footage of Ambrose from the West Melbourne Stadium.. any tips on how to 'upload' this footage?
Ippy... it's converted to MPeg on my PC... How diddle diddle do I fiddle and get the footage uploaded???
I honestly have no ****in idea. Someone help the Sinnster out here, so we can all view this piece of history.
Honestly, not the slightest freekin' idea. I think that mongrel Collingwood supporter knows how though.
