If your fighter doesn't show up like he should and like he is capable of, and gets put on his ass in the 1st round, its best just to blame the rival fighters country. :good

You are an idiot. 6756 posts, an oldtimer on your avatar and don't even know how a Bernard Hopkins fight look like. He make fights ugly. He made Calzaghe fight an ugly fight. Calzaghe beat him in his own game.

Down goes Hopkins... faking another low blow.

(I like Hopkins by the way and the USA is such a good country. They just don't care about boxing anymore and making excuses if their figher loses not praising the fighter who won).

Did he ever deny that Hopkins made the fight look bad?

    Spot on. :deal

Hopkins forced him to fight his fight. A dirty, ugly, uncharacteristic fight.

People seem a bit off at those "Americans" scoring the fight a close one for Calzaghe? :huh

Its fairly simple, I already explained it. Joe's performace was lackluster, even given Bernard's style. Instead of acknowledging this, many here are bashing American boxing fans instead and I'm fed up with it.

Many of us picked Calzaghe. I did as well, but I know a mediocre performance when I see one, especially given his standard. Now, when I or someone else says this, we catch flak from posters for being biased Americans.

    Lets cut the bull****.

I'm surprised by this post of yours, you usually come off as a very
    level-headed and knowledgeable poster:huh

    I am level headed.

What am I supposed to do? When Calzaghe gives a great performance, I call it the way it is. When he doesn't I call it the way it is too.

When I give him props, his fans here love me and I am level headed and just. When I criticize him, I'm a biased American who doesn't know boxing.

Just because I am known as an objective poster doesn't mean that I won't go against the grain. I am assessing the situation honestly right now, whether people like it or not.

I picked Joe on workrate alone, I had it 60/40 going in for Calzaghe, I thought it would be 116-112 at the end. Hopkins put on a better performance than I expected, and did well with the lead right hand, the one that floored Calzaghe in the first. I think it was Calzaghe's workrate at the end was won him the fight, Hopkins landed the much cleaner and more effective shots, props to both men.

Absolutely not, I agree with you. I didn't expect him to look great, but I did expect him to establish his jab, pivot off the front foot, throw punches from more varied angles, and do a little more to control the tempo of the fight.

He simply wasn't the same fighter tonight IMO. I said in my other thread that he may have just had an off night. I'm not shitting on him as a fighter at all, I respect him as the P4P #3 but tonight wasn't what it should have been.

His own father knew it full well. He knew it.
