America needs a Shift in mentality to dominate the heavyweight scene once again

They need some sort of hero. Another Marciano, Ali... Tyson without the criminal record/ear biting.

Boxing wasn't that alive in Montreal in the 90's, then Eric Lucas came out of nowhere and won a belt. After that came Joachim Alcine, Lucian Bute (I know he's more romanian than anything) and Jean Pascal (he grew up in Canada). David Lemieux is a really good prospect, one of the best pure puncher I've ever seen. With models like that, there are a lot of young guys who want to become boxers around here.

 

That actually doesnt make sense at all considering the fact that one of those Ukrainian "greats" would be scrubbing dishes in Uzibekistan if not for Emmanuel Steward, an American.

 

If he was scrubbing dishes the other would be kicking **** out of the best America has to offer.

Antonio Margarito and Paul Williams were very close in size. Paul Williams was taller, but Margarito was easily bigger in frame. Paul Williams won 9-3. Against a future welterweight champion.

Not according to the vast majority of the media. Most had Alexander winning by 4 rounds. I had it a draw myself. No way did he win though. And thats not enough to consider him better then anyone on Bradleys resume. Did Pravda score it for Kotelnik?

He struggled with Cunningham and was nearly KO'd by a shot Michael Grant.

He got lucky. If Cunningham stays on his feet he wins wide. Says alot when you win an SD and score 3 knockdowns. Cunningham isnt even that good and he was still schooling Adamek for most of the fight.

Now Ukraine fails. At everything. Over and over again.

I do have to laugh when the Yanks constantly bring up the lame " the best athletes go mainly into basketball and american football, baseball etc.." excuse. It's quite simple really, the reason the Yanks no longer dominate the HW scene any more is down to the fall of the Soviet Union, freeing up hundreds of millions of potential new boxers. Just look at the top 50 HW rankings, it's full with boxers that used to live in occupied Countries under the brutal Soviet Union. The best two accolades in sport are, the 100m sprint champion and the HW champion of the World, this doesn't change because the yanks can't topple the great European HW's, funny enough we don't hear the Yanks moan and use the same excuse that they are losing potential 100m champions to other sports, no because they do pretty well at it and can't.

 

Check boxrec/ring rankings come back here and tell me with a straight face that it's going to be an American division again.
Do you guys have a young prospect who can challenge the euro/eastern block fighters? I don't see one.

 

If Americans arent producing inferior talent at heavyweight as they were before but merely the Soviet Union is sending great fighters, then explain why Soviets arent dominating the lower divisions. Explain why Chris Arreola and Eddie Chambers are the two best heavyweights from America today. Are you saying these guys are as good as Holyfield, Tyson, Bowe, Ali, Frazier ext?

Really you Europeans arent dumb. As I said in New york City there used to be 100 boxing gyms. Now there are around 10. The sport is near dead at the higherwieghts, because anyone with a 6'6 frame and athleticism is going to be playing football or basketball and make more money and less dangerous and less hardwork.



I mean it really shows how utterly dumb you are when you say the heavyweight championship is the most prestigious championship in the world. How dumb are you? More people know who Wlads girlfriend is then they know Wlads name in America,.

 

There is only 2 eastern block fighters who are any good. Wlad and Vitali. Its pretty much even from there. As to why its hilarious when people say the eastern bloc is dominated. Outside of the Klitsckos who is there? Adamek? :rofl Valuev? :rofl

Guys like Dontaey Wilder will be there to take over once the Klitsckos leave.


Like I said is Scotland going to produce a great heavyweight anytime soon? I'd love to see a guy come to the ring in a dress.

 

If you're trying to seem original/funny you'll have to do better than the old "Scotsman in a dress routine".

On the debating side (since I won't stoop to child insults) yes the Eastern block/Euro fighters are pretty dominant on the HW scene, just look at the top 20 ffs.

You make it sound like they're so bad an average American heavyweight will just steamroll over them, well that's bull****.

 

Outside the top 20 the Europeans are terrible just like the Americans are. You obviously havent been watching boxing long. If you have you'd realize how **** the division is outside of the Klitsckos. A cruiser and a fatass were able to establish themselves inside the top 20. Michael Grant was a few punches away from Koing Adamek an average Cruiser who is now probably one of the best heavies. Same guy who barely beat Cunningham and got dominated by Chad Dawson.

The division just isnt good. All it takes is for one decent athletic American to pick up boxing instead of basketball or football and the division will be ours again.


Dontaey Wilder is probably that guy. Had very little experience and was still able to win a Bronze medal in the olympics. Shows the state of boxing all-around really.

 

That's pretty judgemental and insulting, I consider 25 years pretty long plus a bit mof a classic fan too.

If you've been watching boxing for 25 years then you'd know how weak the current era is at the heavyweight division. But glad you still have your European pride. Go Ukrainians! :rofl
