I would hate to see this guy fight one guy Hopkins his whole career a fight which was controversial and many feel he lost. Then fight a shot Jones and retire. The path of least resistance his whole career Calzaghe should not reap the inflated accolades he does not merit.

I agree 100%. First it was Lacy, then the American's thought Calzaghe would never beat Hopkins. He did. Then all the talk about Pavlik who had a worse resume than Calzaghe was touted as the person to beat Calzaghe, and maybe Pavlik would have won, but if Calzaghe had been 3 years younger he would rip Pavlik a new arse-hole. Soon it will be Dawson everybody (Americans) will claim he should fight.
And what pisses me off most is that Americans say Calzaghe's resume is poor, but the fighters who have been "better" than him have even worse resume's than him. Who has Lacy beat? Robin Reid? Ha!
Who has Pavlik beat? Taylor and that is it, Miranda is average and a lot less capable than the "European fighter" Kessler.
Dawson has only beaten an old Johnson and an even older Tarver, and people will say here that Hopkins was older than them both, but Hopkins at 43 is better than either of those two were at 28.
The only American with a better resume than Calzaghe is Hopkins himself, and not by much either.

when you retire with an "O"
i will quote Nate Cambell. "you aint fought nobody"

we dont hate the fact that sven ottke retired at 34-0
because he didnt fight a damn soul.

Joe is in a much better light that Ottke...at least Joe fought Lacy,Hopkins,Kessler and Now Roy
but MOST of the names on his resume are a joke. did he really need to give mario veit a rematch?? haha
    pete manfredo?
    Evans Ashira?
    Kabary Salem?
    Mger Mkrtchian?
    Tocker Pudwill?
    Miguel Angel Jimenez?
    Will McIntyre?

man, these are all WBO title defenses ...i would keep listing more garbage...but youget the point i would hope

    :patsch

You got it. This is what it's all about.

There are two reasons why Chad Dawson is getting a big push right now:

    1. He's African-American, and undefeated, and the promoters and the fans are desperate for someone to try to fill the "unbeaten black star" role that Fraud Mayweather left behind when he quit to duck Williams and Margarito. I can't overstate how important this is here in America. Roy Jones used to be the standard-bearer of this set. And, as everyone knows, the sport isn't exactly overflowing with fighters to try to fulfill this position at the moment. See the HW division, or the MW division. Those are the two most glamorous divisions in the sport and there isn't anyone there ready to defeat the Eastern Euros, Abraham or Pavlik. Taylor was beaten twice. Foolish 'proxy' fighters like Miranda or Sam Peter were destroyed. Etc. Chad Dawson is being pitched to people who are not happy with how things are going in these two, and other, divisions in boxing. And he won't be able to hold up to the scrutiny. He is simply not good enough. But that doesn't mean Showtime and some promoters won't milk the fans for as much cash as they can until the fans figure out the truth.

    2. He's the latest guy to run up the flagpole as 'the guy who can beat Calzaghe.' Other past names for this spot: Byron Mitchell, Jeff Lacy, Mikkel Kessler, Kelly Pavlik, Bernard Hopkins. All failed (or disqualified themselves from consideration). Dawson's just the latest pretender.

If Tarver is classed as a big win for Dawson, then Eubank against a young inexperienced calzaghe is a big win too, and Eubank said, im his whole career, even against Carl Thompson,Nigel Benn,Watson no one hit as hard as Joe.

Reid was a good fighter, who he beat one haded due to his injury, and I should add Charles Brewer to that list as he was an IBF champ., so no, its not that bad.

Yep, Mitchell was one of the earlier failed experiments of (Don King?) the "let's throw some American at Joe and knock off the fraudulent 'Euro-level' fighter" approach. Charles Brewer is another such name. And so is Sheika.

    Result?

    Calzaghe TKO 2 Mitchell

Around the end of this fight (some would say following the Sheika fight) is when people in boxing, at least here in the States, realized in earnest Joe wasn't going away like a good Euro should. It's been downhill ever since with the 'attempt to de-legitimize Calzaghe's standing in boxing' crowd. Apparently, those who wanted to match Mitchell with Calz didn't know a lot about Robin Reid or Chris Eubank.

America won't give a **** because America doesn't know who he is, nor do they care. Walk down the street and ask 10 people and 10 won't know who he is, sorry to burst your little bubble.
