i don't get how anyone can be blind enough to think that Calzaghe hasn't gotten any credit for his wins over Lacy, Kessler, and Hopkins even from his harshest critics.

and btw people need to stop talking like Calzaghe already beat Pavlik, he didn't, Hopkins did it.

LOL....Don is schooled in the sport of boxing and I'm sure he saw talent in Joe. If Don really wanted to knock Joe off if he really saw him as a fraud BELIEVE me...he wouldn't have sent Bryon to do the job. Bryon was well past his best days at that stage and wasn't really a "World beater" at the time.

exactly. Don King is not some forum junkie who thinks european fighters are all **** because they are european. The brits are so paranoid when it comes to their fighters, its hilarious.

sometimes it feels like if Calzaghe is not rated as the greatest fighter of all time, the brits will claim he gets absolutely zero credit and everyone is an anti-british american.

It may not have been DK, that's why I put the question mark. I do know that an effort was made, not sure by whom, to throw some American fighters at Joe in the hope of knocking him off and being done with him. Didn't work. I could very well be wrong about Don King having any involvement, and that's why I used "?" in my sentence.

I see...You must know somthing b/c Byron was a DK fighter. With that said not many AMERICAN promoters tried to throw US fighters at Joe for a few reasons.

Joe held the WBO title...not really a highly saught after title in the eyes of many.

Joe was figting at Super MW...again..at the time not really an exciting or talent rich division. Actually Joe was the only real talent for a good part of a decade in that division.

And 3...Joe was content not looking for challenging fights in or around his division. Joe sat back and knocked off the foes that were put in front of him. The few american names he did beat before Lacy, Manfreado and Hopkins were guys that were expected to win....as the other 40 names he knocked off.

Joe deserves respect as a very good champion and boxer with great skills and talent.....but as a whole there weren't any american promoters who wanted to expose Joe b/c you can not deny what is right ther in front of you.....what many questioned from Joe was reasonable.....it was his heart and champion mentality. Joe had some many "Gimme" fights that presented little to no challenge that MANY questioned these two characteristics that make up a truly GREAT fighter......

    Fair enough.

The ironic thing about Joe's 'champion mentality' being questioned is that, to me, is the thing that stands out most about him as a fighter. He has an immense will to win and competitiveness, even among other pro athletes. He's like Hopkins that way, or Vitali K. They will do anything to win, and to not allow themselves to come out on the short end of the stick in situations. That's one of the reasons I like Joe so much, and one of the reasons I'm not as fond of half-assers like Sam Peter or David Tua who don't take training seriously.

    Peace. :good

The reason some Brits are biting back with all this Calzaghe bull**** is because of the ignorant, insular and sad bullsit by a lot of US posters who don't give credit where its due, whether thats Calzaghe, Bute, Kessler or anyone else who isn't from America.
I personally couldn't give a flying **** what anyone thinks about our fighters but the constant hyprocrisy of some on here is quite sad. To label a fighter as a eurobum just because he hasnt fought in America is really, really sad and many on here need to look outside of their own boundaries because this is a big planet with many great fighters from all corners of the globe!
Banter is great, everyone has opinions, we all have our favourites but ffs all fighters deserve respect wherever they are from......even a mouthy **** like Hopkins!!!

I have nothing against Calzaghe and I'm a fan. If he retires undefeated then more power to him. I feel that he's an ATG but his resume could have been so much better. He gets credit from me for beating Hopkins all be it past his prime but still a great win. With that said I won't be giving him any credit for beating a shot Roy Jones who has nothing left the fight proves nothing.

Bang on the money. They hated Lennox Lewis dominance and hate Joes dominance.

BS I don't hate Calzaghe or Lewis. They are two of the best fighters to come out of the 90s and 2000s.:deal

5 other champions have retired undefeated, 3 in the past 10 years. It is not really that special anymore. Good for Calzaghe if he does it, but it won't mean much.
