When he beat Tyson what flag was flying?

When he beat Holyfield, what flag was flying?

When he beat Klit, what flag was flying?

Born in London, England. You can try and make out hes not a Brit all you like because it just proves the american anglophobia on here, just like with Joe.

There is wayyyyyy too much prejudicial garbage going on in these forums...

If an American doesn't think Calzaghe is the best fighter in the game, they are "anti-all things not American".

Can't there just be a disagreement?

I'm not some super-patriotic moron who fights for a guy because of the colors of the flag he's waving. I don't think Americans can fight, and others cannot.

I was a big fan of Lennox Lewis, but guess what? Lennox Lewis fought EVERYONE.

Americans tend to want to see big fights. They want to see legend vs legend, atg vs atg, hofer vs hofer...

I've said this many times, and I will say it again... Calzaghe spent from 1997-2006 in relative obscurity, defending a garbage WBO belt, not seeking out the BIG fights. And if they were big fights, they were only big in a small portion of Europe. That's not being ANTI-EUROPE. It's just a fact. There were no markets for those fights in America, because Calzaghe never made it a point to fight outside of his backyard, and/or seek out the big names.

I have no problem with Calzaghe. I think he's overrated by many of his fans, but I don't hate the guy.

The point is, people think that because he fights Bernard Hopkins at 43 or Roy Jones as a shell of his former self, that it counts as fighting "legends".

Americans want to see great fighters against great fighters at their peaks (or at least marginally close to it).

I mean Rocky Marciano beat Joe Louis, but I don't really count that other than as a name on a resume. Lennox Lewis beat Mike Tyson, but he didn't beat the REAL Tyson. He beat a shell of the man. Tyson didn't beat the real Larry Holmes, even though Holmes showed the ability to dominate a young Ray Mercer after that fight.

It's stuff like that. You may not like that Hopkins beat Trinidad at 160lbs, but Trinidad was pretty good at that weight, and he was still a near prime Trinidad. That's a difference.

I don't care if Calzaghe retires 55-0... when he was in his prime, who did he fight? What HOFer did he fight? What ATG did he fight? Who did he meet in their prime?

The reason a lot of people in America don't like Calzaghe, isn't because he's undefeated or not American...

IT'S BECAUSE HE SPENT HIS PRIME FIGHTING PEOPLE NO ONE HEARD OF, FRINGE CONTENDERS, ETC.

    That cannot be disputed.

Boxing was perfected in America. It's totally different than the crap game that started in England. And the lightbulb as well as the internet was invented in America.

If I could be arsed I would, I suggest you use a search engine and find some stuff yourself. Townball was played before the US even existed, then it went through vvarious names before becoming Base Ball and then finally Baseball. Use your search engine and you will leave your ignorance behind.

Well, I don't think there are any native American boxers out there, so by your Logic, America has an appalling record.

I don't have much of a problem with the rest of your post, its obviously your opinion even if I disagree with you. I do however have a problem with the word "deserve" which is often wheeled out by Calzaghe fans normally when the welsh slapper is in the midst of one of his ducking frenzies. Pray tell, what did Bika, Pidwell, Manfredo, Brewer, Starie et al do to "deserve" a shot at Calzaghe?

What's quite funny is all these threads from Calzaghe fans bitching and moaning that Americans don't like Calzaghe enough. You think we give a **** if you guys like our fighters? Hell no. I try to like Calzaghe but it's not easy. I think he's a jerk and his fans on this forum are annoying. He's a good fighter and has accomplished a lot in this sport. However, I will never root for him for the reasons already stated.

You did sissfy it, but we make the rules, regulations it has today.

You get everything from us anyway, law, political system, we even founded America and beat you down in 1812 when you tried to invade Canada, the only war we faced as two nations.

Lets not forget Faraday who made electricity useable :)

When i say "deserve a shot at joe", I mean a shot at him now. when he 45-0 and looking to retire. For what its worth, I dont think for 1 min that calzaghe would have retired if pavlik whipped bhop and joe beats rjj, I think the money would have been too much for him to say no.

Don't be stupid, and learn to interpret simple logic. Many American fighters' families have been rooted in this country for hundreds of years. They born, raised, and learned to fight here. America is so much different than many other countries when you condsider our origin and history. Lennox's parents were immigrants, and he left the country at age 12 and learned to fight somewhere else. Face it, Lennox has no English blood and has very little roots in England.
