It seems for the most part that boxing fans route for and defend fighters who live within their own borders. As someone who routes for fighters who I find exciting and/or entertaining I've never understood all the nationalism that runs rampant in boxing. It's not just fans either it's networks and the like. I'm wondering a few things after last night; 1) How many American supporters does Abraham have on ESB 2) Will the American crowd be behind Dirrell (after all that running) when he faces Abraham? 3) If Ward loses to Kessler how much interest will Americans have in this tournament? I get the feeling Showtime would love nothing more than to have the "home team" take it all but I don't see it happening. I'm American and I'm a fan of Abraham and Kessler as they are far more exciting than the 3 American fighters in the Super Six. Am I the only who looks past country of origin?
I'm Canadian and Abraham has been one of my favorite fighters for quite some time... I don't think twice about the nationality of fighters when considering them.
i'm american and i've come to like abraham.....but i wont necessarily be rooting for him because i like dirrell as well i'm just looking forward to a great i fight
If all things are equal, I'll root for nationalistic reasons. In Froch-Dirrell, I was rooting for Andre (though I have nothing against Froch) in part because I'm from a Midwestern rust belt town, and I know how shitty places like Flint, Gary, and the like are and they could use someone to root for. And even though Dirrell talks his fair share of ****, I never get the vibe that he's a bad guy or anything like that. That said, I also like and support Abraham and I'm going to enjoy the fight (and the tournament) for what it is, regardless of how the US fighters do. Fact is, I'm a bit of a ***** as a fan and I like to see most fighters do well for themselves because just about every fighter has at least one aspect going for them worth rooting for. As long as good matchups are getting delivered, I'm happy. :thumbsup

I am an American and I was routing for Taylor, but I still was aware of the fact that Abraham was winning the fight and there were absolutely no excuses to be made. He did a great job and he's obviously the early favorite to win it all.
2) Will the American crowd be behind Dirrell (after all that running) when he faces Abraham? Why in God's name would American fail to get behind Dirrell? He is the youngest and most inexperienced fighter in the tournament. He traveled to an extremely hostile and inebriated venue, landed more punches against a more experienced champion, and lost a split decision. Sure, he came up short. But is that something to be embarrassed by?
im english and even tho i was rooting for frochi did feel abit sorry for dirrel after the fight. if he decided to trade in a few of the rounds instead of run or hold he mite of got the decision but as it happens he didnt and froch pressed the fight and bagged the tight rounds
I usually root for the people of my same nationality and I don't see anything wrong with it. It could be compared to a certain degree with someone rooting for their family member in the sport. I feel like a have something in common with the person, he fights to make the nation proud and the people want him to succeed. I don't see why so many people talk about it as a bad thing. However I do agree that some people only seem to care about fighter from certain nationality, race, etc and get extremely annoying but that doesn't mean that supporting fighters from your nationality is wrong or bad. I was hoping for Taylor to win only because I thought he was going to win and picked him in the prediction league, but other than that I'm very happy for Arthur and I'm definitely a fan of his.
People on ESB often root against their own nationality as they generally are more interested in boxing than under which flag a boxer competes. But Super Six will loose casual fans in america if US boxers keep loosing. My feeling is, though, that american fans are more fair than the european ones in general. BTW, I am danish and would like to see Kessler win, but I would hate if robberies in favour of my man took place on danish ground.
