how much of an advantage is it for american fighters fighting at home all the time when history shows that whenever they've travelled to fight abroad they have collapsed like a pack of cards?

european fighters get stick for not fighting in america yet who are the last american fighters to get a good win when they have fought abroad?

You're an idiot. America is enormous with varied cultural differences and rivalries. You think Pernell Whitaker enjoyed home ring advantage fighting Chavez in San Antonio Texas?

Hell Winky Wright whole early career was spent beating up eurobums. Hell Tim Bradley started his reign punking Witter in Nottingham.

The vast majority of the best fighters in the world fight in America. Most of the best Euro fighters understand this. Of course your Euro paper champs who are more then fine with milking their cereal box belts for money as long as possible.

Good win - Stevie Johnston had a good win over Billy Schwer, but later it was found in his win that he had taken illegal substances, which sadly nothing was done about. End of 1999. Long time ago.
O McCall over Lewis but that was an even longer time ago around 94
I cant recall any good wins recently, Malignaggi had a close sd win over australian Ndou.

In addition to MichiganWarrior's point, which I think has merit, one should note that because of the economic realities of the sport, most elite level American fighters have no need to fight outside of the U.S. Draw your own conclusions about the desirability of it, but it's true.

While agree alot of great fighters have come from America, there has also been some contraversy to go with it ie
Jones JNR - known to have used illegal substances
Toney - known to have used illegal substances
Vargas - known to have used illegal substances
S Johnston - Known to have used illegal substances
Mosely - Known to have used illegal substances
Hopkins - Made a name beating alot (Not all) of big name smaller fighters
Pavlik - so far very poor title defences

Makes the 'paper champs' like Ottke winning SMW WBA & IBF titles along with 21 defences, Michalczewski winning LHW WBO, WBA, IBF and CW WBO titles in his 21 defences, he should also have been Ring champ on the beat the man to be the man basis, but when the ring re issued its belt they gave it to Jones, but follow the LHW history and see for yourself, or Calzaghe winning Ring SMW & LHW titles and having both at same time (Only fighter to do so recently along with 21 defences at SMW winning WBO, WBC, IBF & WBA titles, not look so bad.

Yes America has some great fighters but with those points above noted, the only one I can really think of is Maywheather.

I could think of more if their was more notable European champions who held more then a paper title.

he is making the point of the best fighters in the world comming TOO america to make a name, fame and fortune, not they all come FROM america, but in the term that a lot of americans do not travel abroad to make fights is real simple MONEY. if it is an american born fighter with a great amateur background( i.e. olypic etc.) they are less likey to have to go abroad to build up a following or find fighters that will fight them, if they are more of the from the ground up fighters like winky wright or nate cambell where they are hard fights for people without the payday or name for promoters to take a chance on putting their investment in the ring with they have n choice but to go to where they can get paid well for a fight

Correction. The vast majorty of great fighters have come from America. NEarly 100% of you count North America and South America.

Europe comparatively is rather devoid of ATG's.

Vitali Klitscko - known to have used illegal substances

    Your point?

He fought bums and never became the undisputed champion despite 21 defenses.

Oh and pretty much holds the record for most "gift" decisions in boxing history.

Michalczewski was a good champion. Roy would have clowned him though if he ever stepped out of his home country.

The only great fighter that you can name to come out of American boxing is Floyd Mayweather? :rofl

So? Does that invalidate his point? Do you really think that Whitaker, because of the fact he's American, had an advantage fighting Chavez in San Antonio or that any currently active non-Latino American fighter would have a "hometown" advantage fighting a non-American Latino at any venue in the Southwest US?

alot of Europe fight promoters have been known to keep their fighters fighting in European countries for steady paychecks and easy wins, thats why IMO Amir Khan got balls because he is going to the U.S. young with no real U.S. fanbase, no traveling circus like ricky and he is fighting in New York which is a city that can be unforgivingly harsh. I respect him for that at least(but he still should have fought Marcos)

alot of people outside of the U.S. truly do not understand how big and diverse it is
the only thing I DO NOT LIKE. is of all the sports In the world Boxing is the only one that is marketed and promoted thru race and ethnicity, Iam not a huge fan of MMA but the one thing do do have is marketing fights off of match ups NOT BY naming them stuff like pinoy power etc.

Just to point out, its the same everywhere....like a welsh fighter fighting in england, a southener fighting up north. A hackney fighter (north east london) fighting say a Peckham fighter, blk guy fighting a white guy, a scottish fighter fighting in eng and so forth. So no you have no point what-so-ever....don't make out like america is totally different for anywhere else....its NOT. Very good thread btw....one of the better ones.

Agree with Bradley.....that was a great win.

Altho i would like to see American fighter's off today take to their European counter-parts more often, they seem to like to travel when a belts on the line an its their only choice if they want that strap.

Witter v DeMarcus Corley, Witter v Bradley, Froch v Dirrell, Haye v Ruiz
