I have no problem with guys supporting a fighter and talking all kinds of stuff about them. I do detest the rubbish that the likes of Warren in Europe spout and the rubbish talked about the American bum fighter at middle with all those KO's, I think his name is Bunson.
what can you expect from the guy who started this thread? He's well known here as a nationalistic ****.. he saw the other thread about euro hype jobs and created this thread as some sort of comeback
If that dude has made one post about boxing, that doesn't involve US vs. UK in some way, I can't remember it.
Damn man, you take your disdain for Tyson quite serious, huh? All that was meant to be implied was the excitement he brought to the ring. Nobody longs for the other aspects of Tyson's "ride" you eloquently laid out there, I don't think.
You're not alone. Just the Calzombies take it as some sort of insult that most of Americans truly didn't give a **** or know much about Lacy to start with. I was a fairly big fan of boxing in the 90's up 'til Lewis retired. Then got drawn back in to the hardcore side over last couple years, and didn't find ESB until early last year. When I came on here and saw all the threads and posts about Calzaghe/Lacy I was like WTF??:huh Or in other words, only HardCore boxing fans knew about Lacy and that fight.
you keep telling yourself that. 90% of the boxing world was convinced lacy would destroy calzaghe, absolutely beyond doubt. michael grant though edges him for my favourite american hypejob.
Harcore boxing world. How many PPV's had Lacy been on?? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, only honest. Maybe the writer's and experts were doing there thing and making the wrong prediction and stuff, but the average American boxing fan did NOT have their eyes fixed on no damn Jeff Lacy, and still don't.
It wasn't so much that Lacy was a hype job, as it was Joe was not doing anything note worthy or impressive at the time ..
who the **** is the average american boxing fan? any boxing fan who wasn't interested in calzaghe-lacy shouldn't call themselves a fan of the sport.
I meant to say, :kenny :kenny YAAAHHHH! A CalZombie!!!:kenny :kenny But seriously, I admitted I didn't come on ESB ever before March 2007, and did not know what to think of all the talk about Calzaghe/ Lacy.:yep
I read posts by UK boxing fans on here that admitted Joe was not popular OVERTHERE prior to that fight, and that he was starting to be looked at much like Sven Ottke is now. By UK posters. So why would American boxing fans be tripping over themselves over a guy that was/is not a marquee name going to fight an obscure (at the time) UK champ for a WBO belt?? Lacy was only 21 fights at the time, and had only beaten an old ass Robin Reid. Nobody not on ESB everyday cared. Now had I been a part of the ESB community in 2006, I would have undoubtedly been in on the fun, and most likely made the wrong prediction.
i think its because joe was an unknown prior to the lacy fight. I mean he's a champion, and also an undefeated one but nobody thought that highly of him, He's been wbo champ for like a decade and nobody takes notice of him. Its the media, same thing as to why nobody cares about guys like erdei and dzinziruk(both WBO titlist btw) Comparison, lacy is to darchinyan, as calzaghe is to donaire. It was almost like the same thing nobody knew donaire before fighting vic., and lots of people were into darchinyan's nut with all that aura of invincibility.
Pavlik and Dawson are unproven against the best. They havn't fought the best, in the home of boxing, Europe. They'd just be club fighters over here. Protected pussies.
