Why won't anyone give this a shot? I think this would be great for boxing in attracting the American audiences. It's different, and creates some amazing entertainment 99% of the time. I have made a thread concerning Prizefighter before, and this is the concept if some people are unfamiliar... ...it is action packed, and can create great opportunities for young, experienced/old boxers. It definitely attracts the casual fan. Anyone have any opinions on this? :good
It's worked pretty well in the UK. It's like a super concentrated version of the contender. What happened to that?
The Contender got very repetitive after a season or 2, for me anyway...the 'action' shots, and 'drama' resembled more of a movie than an actual bout. If they had shown the complete bouts, no doubt they would have been average bouts. The Prizefighter almost guarantees action because of the format alone...and I think it would work very well in the US, and around the world aswell.
It would be nice but what kind of boxers would participate? I'm not familiar with the UK Prizefighter but I don't recognize most names and the ones I do are old and shot. (Williams shot Harrison old)
A mix of young and old in the Prizefighter...but that doesn't necessarily mean the US or other places have to have the same mix. It's the format that pretty much guarantees entertainment really... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYTGqbjAQPg[/ame] ...check this video out, then just above the video you should see 85 videos...bring that down, and you should see all the videos for this particular Prizefighter in order. Watch them all when you get time, this is one of my favourite Prizefighters...and like I said, the boxers and what stage they are at in their careers is pretty much irrelevant. :good
You'd think it could be a hit in the US given the massive success of the UFC, which has the same bar room brawl type of concept behind it. I think a major problem would be US fighters in general having a prima donna complex seemingly bred into them. This sort of thing will be seen as being beneath them by most of US contenders.
I think the difference between a British and American fan is that Brits often want to see a good fight. Where as Americans want to see two undefeated guys fighting. They're more obsessed with those 0's which in some ways is killing the sport over there because fighters are **** scared of losing the big 0. UFC on the other hand have guys at the top with 25-3 records because they chase everyone around them.
Why it hasn't happened regionally is a wonder to me, perhaps nobody wants to put up the cash or they fear there isn't a TV network that would put it on. I've come out with various 'American Prizefighter' rosters before, here are some: Middleweights: Kassim Ouma- NABA Champion Walter Wright Ronald Hearns Jesus Gonzales Ishe Smith Bronco McKart- UBO Champion Daniel Jacobs(I know this is a bigger stretch than Hearns) Hector Camacho Jr. North American Champions(heavyweights): Evander Holyfield- WBF Johnathan Banks- NABF Cedric Boswell- NABA Maurice Harris- USBA Chauncy Welliver- WBC Continental Americans Bermane Stiverne- WBC USNBC, WBC Fedelatin, WBC International James Toney- IBA Chris Arreola- WBC FECOMBOX Champion/Sherman Williams- Interim WBF Champion/Frank Lawrence- IBO Inter-continental Champion Now this is a classy event, so you stick this one on World Championship Boxing perhaps even PPV. If it does go to PPV, stick some strippers on it like the Williams-Holyfield fight. Winner gets $50,000 and with all the belts a shot at one of the big 3.
If it did cross the pond, I'm sure they probably would stick it on PPV...but Prizefighter is there to draw in the casual fans, a lot more fast-paced than normal bouts, etc. Not sure it would be as successful on PPV...afterall, only actual boxing fans would consider forking out for it. Good list though, man. :good
Because Prizefighter is flawed to hell. Just look at last nights, and the fact 2 substitutes managed to fight. Complete cack.
I would make it an extravaganza and stick it on ESPN, have a little "pregame" thing going on looking into the history of the fighters. A story like Kassim Ouma would definitely pull at the fans. And once its through the door I am sure a once every couple of months tourney could garner great ratings. An even better thing would be to have the "reward" fight on ESPN as well. So lets say they have Jr. middleweights, a fight with K9 on ESPN would do pretty good ratings.
cuts and walking back out for another match is really bad. ted bami needed to have stitches between fights. bad cut as well...gaping. there are flaws but it's good for the upper tier journeyman. who can earn a bit , get some tv time and fight known prospects.
