SLAKKA, very good...Tommy Milligan was a great british middleweight champion who beat the great Ted Kid Lewis twice in 1924-5...But the Toy Bulldog where he kodTommy Milligan in 1927..The Brits raved about Mickey Walker...In 1928 Tommy Milligan kod Maxie Rosenbloom for Maxies only ko loss in 300 bouts...

Thanks Burt, my pal Phil from Brooklyn found it hard to believe Maxie was KOed so he tracked down Gilbert Odd who was Ringside. Odd confirmed it was legit.

Two months later he was absolutely blitzed by a fading (and somewhat inconsistent) Frank Moody. I have that film and Milligan is blasted out of there. Im not that big on Milligan. It should be remembered that his wins over Lewis, which are really his signature wins, were when Lewis was past his prime. His win over Rosenbloom was an aberration which lends credence to the idea that it was indeed a foul blow.

Walkers two books make it clear he and good old Doc Kearns drained may a bottle of the bubbly during this adventuresome little juncture.

Yes Klompton I agree in 1924 Lewis was 31 and past his prime...And the ko of Rosenbloom in 1928 was controversal because Rosenbloom claimed the blow was below the belt, but Tommy Milligan was highly regarded by the Brits, and prime Mickey Walker looks devastating in the ko of
Milligan in 1927...Mickey was a tough SOB for ANYONE his weight...

Yes Mickey looks fantastic in that fight. I have a digitally restored copy of it and the way he places his punches is amazing, especially the knockout blow which is an oddly thrown punch but still lands with power. Walker hit him so hard that he was bleeding from his ears, nose, and mouth and indeed, in my copy after he is down for the final time when his corner drags him away there is a big blood stain on the canvas that wasnt there before he fell.
