    what a load of ****.

if calzaghe actually had a punch post 2004
if hopkins chose to fight someone who wasnt a welterweight
if hopkins had not declined the fight 7 years earlier (fact)

if only my auntie had bollocks she'd me my uncle..

fact is hopkins chose to fight howard eastman and william joppy while calzaghe was decimating the likes of lacy, bika and mitchell etc and you are basing prime on age (see tyson v lewis) what hopkins lacks from his 20s/30s he makes up for in other areas,he destroyed tarver and pavlik hardly shot is he?

i mean when exactly is his prime? was it when he was fighting syd vanderpool or robert allen in competitive 12 rounders (lacy blew vanderpool out in 7) or when he was chasing jones for 12 rounds? or when he was beating the like of taylor (in one of em) pavlik and tarver etc?

I'm no fan of baseball I can't watch too much of it either but I love the NFL. What I get from most is that the game is just too slow for their taste. I just heard directv replays 3 hour games in about 30 minutes minus the huddle's, commercials and other delays just play after play.

this is the thing that annoys me about a lot of the idiotic posters on here. they all say B-hop and Dawson should fight, cos they're the two best LHW's today. Yet they say Hopkins was past his prime when he lost to Calzaghe. This was inbetween victories over Tarver, Wright and Pavlik!!!!!

how anyone can say he was past it is a joke

I said "this side of the pond", but I was thinking of Lucian Bute (who I'd favor to beat everyone other than Kessler, which I think is a 50/50 fight) and Librado Andrade, who would probably beat 4 of the 6 in the tournament (and yes, Andrade is American of Mexican and Italian heritage). And that's not mentioning Kelly Pavlik, who would have probably been a co-favorite to win the whole thing had he been in it.

I suppose you could make the argument that Bute is Euro as well, but he's lived in Canada for a decade now and is a naturalized citizen, so I consider him to be Canadian just as much as I consider Vic Darchinyan or Sakio Bika to be Australian.

big difference castillo was being effective coming forward and carl was just coming forward

you guys claim we americans dont give carl froch, ricky hatton or joe calzaghe credit becouse us americans are stupid and biase, did it ever come to pass in your head that maybe its becouse the fights weve see these guys in, they simply look awful.

joe vs hopkins, i did give the fight to joe for being busy and forcing the tempo but bhop still made him look like an ameratur flailing his arms around like a little school girl(not the super joe i expected), hatton has been terribly overmatched in his last two fights, and ill admit i became a bit of a froch fan after the taylor fight but thats not gona blind me from the fact that he looked like **** against dirrell, he was clearly geting frustrated that he couldent hit dirrell, he was getting countered beautifly by dirrell and most of everything he landed were arm punches in clinches (most to the back of dirrells head)

    WELL LHW WHATEVER...

    could easily make cruiser.

that guy should be ashamed vacating the title (blatantly ducking cloud) to fight johnson again, people ***** about calzaghe fighting older men(overlooking the fact he was 37 himself) yet when an american does it hes rated as the best thing since sliced bread, besides that (johnson/dawson) was a controversial decision aswell,i wouldnt be suprised if johnson gets the nod this time...

touche i misunderstood what ya meant there. hmmm Bute well his fight against andrade was a spit of the taylor froch fight. i dont give bute much credit. Andrade i'd love to see him rematch stieglitz, i'd have loved him in this tourney.

as for pavlik i'm unsure he'd have been a favourite, post hopkins hes looked faded

did you watch joe vs lacey or kessler? how can you he looked awful in them fights. Hatton was a great chmp but not a great fighter, he had ambitions an tried reaching them so props to him.

in frochs last 5 fights he beat reid, pascal, taylor and dirrel. that is not a bad resume for someone on 26 fights. the whole fight vs dirrel was awful.

We all have our own prejudices when it comes to our favorite fighters. Now lay your's aside for just one minute. This tournament is Sauerland's baby. He came up with it, sold it to Showtime, and was intsrumental in every phase of putting it together. Bute and Pavlik, the two guys who have the best chance of doing well against his fighters, were not invited. Why not?

yes i did see those fights and i was impressed especially by joe, but im judging these guys by there biggest fights and honestly i was a bit disapointed (especially by joe coming of the kessler fight)
and like i said if the same carl that showed up against taylor fought dirrell id probobly be a huge carl froch fan right now:-(
