Martinez-Chavez and Canelo-Lopez have been dominating the headlines/discussions, but there's a pretty ace UK dust-up taking place this weekend between lightweights Ricky Burns and Kevin Mitchell. The WBO title is on the line, and both guys will be looking to make a statement.

You Broner fans should be marking this in your diaries.

Despite all the silly talk of Ricky ducking Broner,I think most Broner fans accept that Ricky doesn't have much appeal to HBO at this stage and as champion,he certainly shouldn't be coming over for an "opponent purse"

I'm actually a bit concerned about this fight.I met Ricky a few weeks ago and he told me he's expecting his hardest fight and he fully expects it to go the full 12(was asking which round to bet:hey)
If Mitchell was the betting favourite,I'd have no concerns but I don't think Ricky likes being as fancied as he is.I've always felt Mitchell has a truly great performance in him but I think Ricky has the jab to cut him off and control the pace.Think the trick with Mitchell is to correctly anticipate his angles because he moves well.He fights very well on the back foot but what I think Ricky can do is use his long range punches very well and that seems to me to be a good antidote for nullifying Mitchell.Does Ricky have the movement though?:think
What does worry me is that I can't see an opponent in the last few years that has the versatility of an in-form Mitchell and whilst it's OK saying what Ricky has to do,Mitchell's lateral movement can be a big problem if Ricky can't keep his jab on target. For me it really comes down to Ricky's jab and how Mitchell deals with it.
But we've all written Ricky off before, and although I'm a bit worried about Mitchell's excellent movement and ability to throw good combos going backwards, that's probably just how Ricky likes it.
As you can probably see,I'm at sixes and sevens with my prediction because this is a genuine 100% pick em' fight.
Should be a great match though.Might well go along.

Broner is/was/would be(?) the WBO #1 contender, and of course, at one time was all set to fight Burns on HBO. Of course, for whatever reason, Burns backed out. Yes, understood that was all when both were at sfw, but still...

Now Broner is set to fight Demarco. Don't know how much interest Burns has in fighting either one. And vice versa: don't know if either Broner or Demarco, as the winner, would feel a need to fight Burns. The loser probably would. Never heard much out of Ricky wanting to unify with Demarco.

If Mitchell wins, don't think he would be considered a serious challenge for Broner or Demarco.

I think both Burns and/or Mitchell will be content to stay home and face their "European" competition. :D

True. But they should give a ****. One of these guys will likely be part of the next big American vs Brit fight. Given Broner's personality and his fanbase, this could be reminiscent of Mayweather-Hatton. Obviously not on the same scale, but definitely the same sort of hype and banter.

He out-grew the division. Couldn't make super feather anymore.

And I'm not really expecting the winners (or losers) of these fights to fight each other immediately next. Just that, at some point in the future, especially if world titles are at stake, they could/should fight each other.

I think if Burns wins he's more likely to face the Bogere v Abril winner in a WBA/WBO unification seeing as they would be more likely to travel to Britain.

good breakdown , im stuck as to who wins, will Burns persistant jab and solid defence be the winner? or will Mitchells movement and stinging punches do the job?

**** yes I'm excited! I'm also excited to see Scott Harrison, Molitor vs Frampton, McCloskey vs Perez & Selby vs Lindsay!

I can take or leave the Simpson vs Davies fight though.

I really think Mitchell has a genuinely great performance in him,and I'm worried that it could be on Saturday(as a Burns fan.Quite like Mitchell though)
I know that no one has a bad camp and always looks great according to their team, but Ricky told me that they're getting word Mitchell's in the shape of his life.
I'll never write Ricky off again, but I'm far more worried about this than I was about Katsidis.:scaredas:

It should be interesting. Ill check it out if I can. But I do think Broner wrecks both of these guys.
