I don't believe we will be doing better anytime soon. You realize that the NFL draft gets more coverage than any boxing match does. And nothing happens on draft day but the reading of names. The Super Bowl is practically a national holiday. Mayweather-DLH didn't merit front page news on my local newspapers Sports section.

Not sure exactly, just remember during all the hype that they fought each other in the ams.

I agree that we can do better but at the same time I think it's going to be a once in a generation thing to find someone like Rahman who can start off at that age and translate it into a decent career (and really I think that's all they can do, no matter how physically gifted they are).

If it wasn't for the huge ice-fishing culture in Alaska we'd probably see more Eskimoe heavyweights.

I also think that MMA will start to steal those in that target range Lampley is talking about, especially once the money gets better. While it takes a lot of work to fight at the top level of MMA, it doesn't compare at all to boxing's. In addition the talent pool is much smaller and there have been shows like TUF which give people not only the exposure but the path to getting better training and a chance at a title shot. Half the fighters on those shows are just starting out too.

Which is unusual. I wonder why MMA is catching on while boxing is falling off?

LOL, he might be a bit too tall and uncoordinated to fight. Different skill set. But who knows.

Reverse the argument and realize that Ali (extremely slow of foot in sprints), Frazier (weak), Holmes (did not make his school team), Tyson (so unco-ordinated on the basketball court that he was teased as an Olympic hopeful)- arguably the best American heavies of the past 40 years- had no inkling of talent for any sport other than boxing. Are you then to tell me they would be swept up by the NBA or NFL were they around today? Were the NFL and NBA created in 1999? This is such non-sensical,self-centered American argument to assuage the wounds of being embarrassed in the division they once ruled.

As I stated in the other thread about this. Until EE start to put fighters in the top of other weights dont gave me this dominate stuff. There are a few heavyweights that are skilled. Note once again I didnt say TALENTED. Wlad is Talented but outside of him the rest are just skilled. Skill comes from doing some early and often.

And to some of you guys that talk about Football and boxing have been around for sooo long and it didnt effect boxing. I say that is true, but that is also when a football and basketball players were making max 150,000k US per year and top boxers were making 500,000k per fight and boxing was on every weekend while you were lucky to see two basketball games per month until the playoffs. Things have changed and its boxing that is the sport that you will never see unless you have pay tv.

Let me say this so there is no misunderstanding. European boxers are simply getting better, much like their basketball players. There are mitigating factors with the US and how it is performing in boxing. But even if there wasn't, the European nations would be putting out great fighters.
