Americans, how do you think boxing can return to some of the glory days over there?

I think boxing loses a lot of fanfare because the only "worthy" fights are on PPV. Also, UFC swarms the media. They have like 4 shows and reruns all week. Boxing has 1month of free FNF and TNF.... There is no exposure to our sport. Local venues dont put up schedules for amateur/prospect fights and the ABCs cast a cloud over a true champ.

For the US to regain its luster in boxing, we need to televise more shows, start highschool boxing programs, properly hype our fights, clean up the sport as far as PEDS (this is not a Pac remark) Eliminate ducking by FORCING the "must see" fights.

 

People have to realize boxing will never day. So many lies are being said, NBA is losing money everyday. MLB is not even generating enough money in many of their stadiums. NHL just needs help and the UFC just likes making numbers up. The only main attraction is Mr.Lesnar and is surely not because of his skills. All these sports have been trough lockouts and even forcing teams to move to other cities. Boxing has events every week through local gyms, towns, cities, and around the world. They sell out arenas many times. When you get an athlete to make 30 million dollars in one night from boxing, how could you say boxing is dying. Everyone involve in boxing is just to smart, including fighters. The negotiations now involve a whole group, not just one masterminder. Boxing is the best sport and oldest sport of all time.

I like what you wrote, and thank you. Basically, boxing (like any sport) needs a mechanism to allow young people to pursue boxing, and for fans to appreciate boxing. In your writing, that mechanism was the collegiate system. It acts as a kind of minor league. They're given scholarships, grants, and other benefits. But the main point here is that there is a mechanism for growth. Because in MMA there is no collegiate system for MMA to benefit from (as far as I know). The main reason why I think MMA has grown in the USA and around the world (other than its novelty), is because of the martial arts schools and wrestling. Many MMAist come from those programs, and this is there mechanism for growth. Unfortunately, boxers do not have a closely related program that encourages them to pursue boxing as a career. This is my opinion, and I welcome all comments and criticisms.

 

You already have a dominant HW who is a great sportsman, athlete and is articulate and fights the best avaiable.

That's not getting it done, because it's not exciting to watch.

Break the stranglehold that Vegas has on the bigger fights. We're not getting enough quality fights in other regions of the country.
