For me it always felt like calzaghe was just getting started with some of the bigger name fights (even tho roy was well past it) then he packs in.

lennox and it's not even close. calzaghe, hamed and hatton are all borderline hofs. lennox was truly great.

Best, proven power, skill, and will for any era.

One of the best, wish he would have crossed the pond.

Most naturally talented, wish he would have returned quickly.

    Haye, jury is still out.

Calz, all day long. Two weight lineal champ and retired undefeated.
LL is a close 2nd because he did unify the glamour divison, but he lost
twice. There's something to be said for having NEVER lost a fight. Every fighter has a bad night and doesn't have to lose to elite to still have a blemish. Joe NEVER lost despite having bads nights and taking unnecessary risks inside that ring despite winning the fights he was in.
Joe won, and also won while FIGHTING to give fans value for the dollar.
Joe has to be the most hated and disrespected combatant in the history
of boxing who retired undefeated as a legit and undisputed world champion who fought every major fight that was in his era at the time,
and he did what almost every elite fighter in the US has never done.
    Traveled.

There is no question. Joe calzaghe as the answer to your thread topic.

First, what are we calling "modern era". I'm pretty sure all the guys listed (except Haye, and his inclusion in this is a joke) overlapped careers with those killer super middleweights of the late 80s early 90s. In which case, I would put prime Eubanks, Benn, Collins and even Watson ahead of Zag, and definitely far beyond Naz.
Lennox Lewis, however, is probably (at least arguably) the best British fighter ever at any weight class. That guy was the total package. I just wonder how he would heralded if he didn't have that occasional problem with not training or taking his craft seriously.
He should've retired undefeated and if he had, people might be talking about him as THE ATG.
