    Calzaghe
    Froch

Two of the best SMW's of the last 20 years or so to come out of Britain get a lot of stick on here, particularly from the Americans.

Calzaghe- his 10 year regin as champion with a 46-0 record wasn't good enough for you as he never came to the states earlier and didn't fight the best overseas. When he did go across the pond he beat two legends of the game in Jones and Hopkins (the latter went on to dominate Kelly Pavlik in his very next fight even tho he was 'shot').

Froch - he on the other hand HAS fought the best in the division as of date, with only 1 defeat by Kessler (who Joey C beat). But that isn't good enough either as he has a 'caveman' style with no defence and can't box (watch the AA fight to see how wrong you were).

So, out of these two, who do you hold in higher regard? And why?

I'm British m8. I happen to think the stick the pair of them get is completely unwarranted. What more could Joey C have done? I'm not quiet sure if I'm honest. If he was American he would be considered an ATG without a doubt with his record. 46-0 is an excellent record in this day in age.

Btw, I think JC should be held on higher regard

I'm English but in my opinion at this point Calzaghe should be but if Froch can get past Johnson, Ward and Bute there would be a good argument for him.

    Yup agree with this :good

If he does this, for me he wouldn't even need to move up to LHW to surpass JC.

Calzaghe is in higher regard so far. Consistantly winning , even with injured hands, and dominating Lacy and Kessler prove Joe was one of the better fighters around for several years.
In comparison Froch isn't as accomplished, but his career isn't over yet. If Carl beats Andre Ward and Glenn Johnson, that would make him more accomplished than Joe.
I don't think that'll happen though, I see Froch getting dominated by both Ward and Johnson.
    We'll see .

Joe's best wins were against past their primes Eubank, Hopkins, and a shot RJJ. The only fighters he beat in their primes were Kessler and Lacy. Had he given Hopkins a rematch because I think Hopkins clearly won the first half and waited abit more for the Super 6 Calzaghe would of proven how great he really is. For now I have Froch ahead of him. The Kessler fight was too close to call, could of gone either ways, as was the Direll fight, he stopped Taylor, and he dominates AA even better than Direll did who's supposed to be a better boxer than the Cobra. I would say Froch and Calzaghe are more on par, but if I'd have to pick I'd pick Froch. I think Johnson is just about as dangerous as Hopkins is at this point. Hopkins had Johnson's number years ago, but I'm not sure if he can do the samething today.

I am pretty sure most of us hate Joe Calzaghe, maybe unfairly, but Froch has a better resume already.

I think when talking about quality opponents, Froch is outdoing JC if he keep it up!!

I feel similarly. Calz was a jerk in many respects, and though Froch has his moments, the Cobra has shown a distinct willingness to fight anyone, anywhere.

In terms of sheer natural ability, though, Calz was vastly superior to Froch.

Calzaghe had talent but took on over the hill guys, Froch isn't as popular in England so he is forced to take on guys in their prime, see his fight with Taylor, therefore Froch is tougher and more accomplished already.

This is a fair analysis. Calzaghe is the far more talented fighter, but Froch outdoes him on grit and guts.
