the american tv companies and promoters are killing boxing. america has too much power and control over boxing and it's really bad for the sport.

sounds like manny v hatton is now going to take place in vegas.

why should a fighter from the phillipines take on a fighter from the uk in front of just 15'000 fans in america when a fight in eithers home land would generate a 90'000 attendance.

its all money, money, money, to suit american audiences and american time schedules. **** the rest of the world, **** the massess, **** the real boxing fans who are prepared to get off there arses and actually attend the fight itself. instead what you have is massive fights taking place in **** arena's with tickets given away to big gamblers who probably don't give a **** about boxing.

do the promoters / tv companies who arrange this actually care about the sport of boxing, about the genuine fight fans out there, about the occasion - NO, THEY DON'T GIVE A ****!! its all greed, to make an extra few dollars for themselves and to suit america - america's stranglehold on boxing is killing the sport.

what happenned to actually making the fight a great occasion, a moment in history, with record attendences. instead real fans of the fighters will have to spend around £3000 and take a week off work to watch there heroes fight thousands of miles away. either that or set your alarms for 4am in the morning to watch your fighter on ppv.

america's monopoly on boxing is ruining it, promoters and tv companies do not give a **** about the real fans out there. added to that, promising fighters like kessler and froch are now likely to get frozen out of big fights just because american's do not know who they are. i realise that money talks but how is that good for boxing?

with america's interest in boxing seemingly wilting, surely the day has to come when the power and control of boxing is spread more evenly around the rest of the world. for the good of the sport, boxing needs to start looking after its genuine fans and not the needs of selfish tv companies and promoters.

hey I'm all for it, I love it when fights are live from Europe, that means they're on Sat afternoon here and I don't have to waste a saturday night being anti-social and watching boxing by myself...because none of my friends are fans

Manny can't fight in Manchester he would get screwed by the refs when Hatton needs a "shoelace" break. Not to mention that every time Ricky got inside if he was doing well the action would continue and if he wasn't they would break them. Fuggedabout.

I'm sure Hatton and Manny are happy to fight in America if it makes them the most money. Tell your networks to pony up the money if you want them over there. I could not care less as long as the fight is on TV. You can have them.

This is a good point and I agree. I think the obvious problem here is though that its not the promoters and the Networks. It is the fighters who allow it to take place.

Lets face it, the fighters are greedy and really only care about money. If they didnt care about money they would take less to fight in Wembley stadium with 90k fans on a cold rainy night. If Hatton and Pac said hey lets take a less purse and **** the networks this figth could be made in the UK or the phillipines. However, hatton and pac are greedy and do they really care about the Fans?

I think thats the bigger question.

Also just one point, this is a new phenomena. The USA fighters of the 70's and 80's fought all over the world when Boxing was most popular here. Look at Foreman Ali in Zaire. Look at Norton/formean in Caracas Venezuela. This is a new phenomena and it sets a bad precedent. But, the bottom line is the fighters are too greedy to stop this behavior and allow the promoters and netwrosk to line their pockets this way.

Oh and One edit. I also prefer watching a Saturday afternoon fight so my Saturday evening is free so I can go out. I am not opposed to Euro fights at all.

Yeah because all fight fans want to pay $50 for PPV's everytime there's a fight on. American networks created the PPV, this is what is hurting boxing.

  10. I guess this relates to this thread:

BoxingS****.com was advised that HBO is not willing to approve a super middleweight bout between WBC champion Carl Froch and mandatory Jermain Taylor. Instead, HBO is trying to make a rematch between Taylor and Winky Wright. Wright, as you may remember, was due a date on HBO last September. The network would eventually renege on Winky, and handed the date to Golden Boy Promotions for Mosley-Mayorga.

I couldnt agree more, its ludicrous that fights without an American boxer have to be in Vegas or wherever. Calzaghe fought Kessler in front of 80,000 people, thats gotta make a shitload of money, as well as it being on UK TV and HBO.

I personally think that Vegas has a say in the matter, lots of fans spend a lot of money.

If the fight would actually make more money elsewhere, it would actually be elsewhere. Period. The difference is that Americans will pay nearly twice as much for a PPV. Americans will pay $5000 for the best seats in the house.

Boxing in Europe has been getting better and better every year.

I expect Germany to be the mecca of boxing in ten years time, actually it might be sooner.

i agree with rightcross post as to how and why the possible fight will take place.

arum says no way will the fight be held in the uk , because quite simply the casinos pay his site fee`s.

if the fight take place the ppv will not be more than 500k IMO which means its status as a showcase for boxing is diminished and will go largley unnoticed.
