how anybody can complain about point deductions after this........ [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3E6oeit0RI[/ame]
This happens in every fight, is the first fight you have watched? the refs rarely ever deduct points for pushing/leaning on your opponent, actually so rare I don't even remember when I last saw this happen. Ref was a mug, a homer mug.
Yep, absolutely agree, it was almsot like the ref new the scoring so a deduction in the last round should do the trick!
If refs actually enforced the rules then guys like Andre Ward and Bernard Hopkins would be deducted points in every fight.
Seriously this doesn't happen in every fight, and if it did then referees don't do their jobs. Khan was pushing Peterson away when he was under pressure and then sometimes he could even benefit double from it by landing a counter of his own. That in combination with the constant clinching and holding/hitting, wich everybody in boxing complains about, and Khan continuing to do it despite the constant warnings made the 2 point deductions 100% legit. Now when Peterson had done the same things Khan did and the referee only picked on Khan I would say it was a homeboy referee, but in this case he wasn't. Indeed they would... :yep I'm sure every Brit wants this referee in the Ward vs Froch bout, cause it would mean Ward can't foul like he's used to.
Finally someone has seen what I saw. Thought I was going mad Khan was CONSTANTLY pushing from the 3rd round when Peterson got close he didn't like it so kept forcefully with two hands throwing Peterson away I'm not expert but surely that isn't aloud he kept doing it watch the fight and the ref kept warning him watch the fight...even after the first deduction he kept doing it the ref had no choice and was spot on feel so sorry for him he did a great job. Now everyone was up in arms rightly so when Cortez didn't let Mayweather and Hatton sort it out on the inside now we have a go at a ref who let them sort it out for themselves and we blame him they can't win....also we had a great fight that's because the ref didn't jump in every second like cortez does infighting is a massive part of professional boxing and makes great fights someone needs to let Joe Cortez know
He let them sort it out for themselves? no he didn't he deducted 2 points from Khan and gave Peterson the victory.
Yep, that still pisses me off that he got away with that... If he had a referee who acted against that in all his fights, he might not be called 'the greatest' right now :deal Scoring sucked in a couple of his fights too, but that's another matter... I hate the constant fouling in boxing.
Yes he gave them a chance to LEGALLY sort it out from themselves but the fighter who wanted the fight on the outside didn't have the skill to legally get out (like money) so he ILLEGALLY kept pushing his opponent away watch the video I've never seen a fighter push so many times I think at one point he took a run up was madness should have had points taken off earlier
I only watched half way in. That vid is ****. Sure, Khan was guilt of a lot of infringements - mainly pushing and pulling the head down - but most of what was shown there is standard in fights like that.
The first incident in that video was when the ref said 'fight it out' which is allowed, no illegal shot there at all....
Honestly this is nothing. Do we want this metrosexual over reffing bollocks to be the future of boxing? Its a ****ing fight for christ sake! Had a watch of Holyfield vs Qawi I recently and its on a different ****ing stratosphere. PS. Do you think there would've been more or less of an uproar if Eric Morales had been docked 2 points for 'pushing.':fight PPS. Don't watch the prequel to 'The Thing', entitled, cunningly enough, 'The Thing' as its gash. None of the cold war paranoia subtext of the John Carpenter classic. Just a dumb horror actioner with explosions and no originality or artistic integrity whatsoever. Pissed me off more than the Khan fight.
