A week from Saturday in Birmingham at the renamed Arena; this will be at 154lbs.

Neither is ranked top 5 in this division by any major org. Khan is ranked #7 by the WBO and simultaneously ranked tenth & fifth by the WBC & WBA respectively at welterweight despite having not competed there since 2015 when he beat Chris Algieri. Vargas has fought twice in a row at the welter limit, and is the WBA-NABA champion there, and is 9th in the world in their rankings.

For some reason this is scheduled for 12 rounds even though neither has any hardware to put on the line and this isn't an eliminator. I for one loathe this practice. Celebrity or no, if you're empty-handed and not lined up in the rankings for even an eliminator, you compete in 10-rounders, period.

Dragging up a mediocre welterweight possessing barely average welter pop, no less.

Will it be at 154 or a catchweight?
And **** Khan for taking tuneups at above 147, but refusing to fight Brook anywhere but 147.

I really hope Eddie can work some magic and make the fight happen.

Khan's gonna win, then claim the top fighters at WW and SWW are ducking him.

Khan would get KILLED if he fought any of the top 154 lbers.

This is at best a lateral move from Khan's last fight, against Phil LoGreco.

The "Italian Sensation" is the same approximate size & skill level as Vargas, and entered the Khan fight with a 49% kayo rate having fought just thrice ever below the 147lb limit, otherwise primarily at 154lb but occasionally as high as super middle. Vargas is coming in with a 41% kayo rate having fought eleven times at welter and 23 at super welter.

Both had lost thrice before facing Khan, and both were stopped by Spence. In terms of big names, LoGreco had also lost to Shawn Porter and Vargas to Danny Garcia. LoGreco's most ignominious loss was to Joseph Elegele, which is much less embarrassing than Vargas being pistol-whipped by journeyman Sepulturero Munguia.

No catch weight, just straight up junior middle.

Wouldn't provide any advantage anyway, as Vargas punches like a featherweight at either 147 or 154.

    This.
It's a shame what happened to Khan: from a decent world level fighter who liked a scrap in the first half of his career to cherry picking not only opponents but weight divisions now....

Allegedly he'll be dropping to welter again for the winner of Garcia vs. Porter - after mopping up each man's leftovers (Vargas & LoGreco, respectively) first. :nusenuse:

He'd earn back some of my respect just for entering the ring for a Porter or Garcia II match, tbh.

And back in 2010-2012, he went after it! He went after the best guys. Of course it was all measured but still, he stepped up.
But after that it was all calculated in order to get Floyd. When that fell through he stepped up to face Alvarez.
He never was afraid to show himself. That is before you mention the name Kell Brook.
It has been a complete **** show.

Yes, Floyd managed to F-up his career without even stepping into the ring. Khan was dumb; to get on the gravy train you had to play by Mayweather's rules (or at least appear to be) - swallow some pride and swell the bank balance. Khan spent the best part of two years telling the world he would beat Mayweather easily, but not actually boxing to stay relevant. I guess he knew a KO is always just round the corner...

Could you imagine Khan fighting Hurd? The size difference would be hilarious.

Did you ever watch Khan vs Limmond watch that back Khan floored by a soft puncher then a dodgy count by ref , still annoys the **** out of me !
