BOttomline is he dropped Bhop and hurt himat least a couple times... THats pretty rare,up until his recent fights with Pascal,, Idont recall him ever being seriously hurt( Maybe Allen and Echols but they didnt put himon hisasss),and hes faced some bombers.... Mercardo was lucky to even get a title shot and never amounted to much.... Regardless if you think it was a robbery,,,No 2nd rater has ever given BHOP problems since then.
that fight was fought at an altitude that Hopkins had a week to adjust to. BHop raped him in the rematch.
Imnot buying that one.. He was dropped and hurt early...I could see if it was latewhere that would affect him.. Hopkins improved after this...Looking at all hes done since its pretty much fact that Hopkins was a late bloomer.
For someone as experienced in the fight game as you, you can be rather naive. The fact that he didn't perform as well in another fight doesn't mean he wasn't peaked, it simply means he didn't perform as well on the night. Benitez wasn't the most consistent performer. Anyways, Curry would've beaten Khan, to say nothing of Benitez.
Curry is arguable. Whats NOT arguable is that Cervantes would have put Khan in a pine box. This is such a joke matchup its not even funny. Benitez had more talent in one testicle than Khan has in his body. Will's performances against Cervantes, Palomino, Duran, and Hope are performances Conman couldnt duplicate in three lifetimes. This is an insult to Benitez.
Yes im aware of hot and cold performances.... However he hadnt quite peaked then,.. THis is what im talking about when i say being a fan and following boxing at the time gives you a clear view as to where these fighters were at a particular time in their careers... Some day you will know what im talking about... And no Benitez had not quite peaked yet. And no Bruce Curry wouldnt have beat Kahn.. Live underdog yes.. But favorite no way.
Read the thread title before getting your panties in a bunch..... I said 17 year old Benitez... Benitez was already a 4 and 6 years older and a WW,JMwhen he beat Palomino and Duran... I never compared Kahn to a peak Benitez, and i never said that Kahn was on Par with Benitez(as far as careers or peaks).
Benitez. At 17 Benitez was n outstanding pro Khan was a great amatur. I'll go with the outstanding pro.
