I heard Eastenders is going to primetime because the bbc wont give them money. This is great news as it breaks terrestrial tvs monopoly on the soaps.
I have said they need to improve this, some of the ads were cringeworthy. Can they improve this? Of course It's not that big of a deal to improve
LOL What you probably own is an old white Merc with as many of your mates stuffed in it as humanly possible. Oh, and don't forget to blare the music out. Love that.
How would you convince people to watch a GBP fight at 4am not involving a British fighter to the public when most people who would be interested in the fight would just watch it on the intenet the day after? Khan and maybe a stacked "he who must not be named" card are the only ppv worthy cards.
An international press conference. Appearance on tv shows that attract a few million viewers over here for some GBP fighters maybe
Ok, which tv shows that attract these viewers? Im guessing you mean talk shows like Graham Norton/ Paul O'Grady and Jonathan Ross.
Not many. The fights on Setanta were free to air to their 2million+ subscribers yet the Cotto fights only did these numbers: 26/07/2008 Cotto-Margarito 14,000 (Setanta #9) 21/02/2009 Cotto-Jennings 12,000 (Setanta 2 #2) 13/06/2009 Cotto-Clottey 10,000 (Setanta 2 #6) So how many people would pay £15, or even £10, for these GBP fights? :think
Without subscription tv who puts up the money for the big fights? Subscription tv is not the reason why boxing is niche. Bad fights, too many world titles, the best fighters not fighting each other, a pathetic HW division are just few of the reasons which have hurt the sport. It is far too simplistic to lay the blame on subscription tv.
Exactly. Pacquiao/Mayweater/Martinez and other fighters have the cross over appeal, up and coming US based fighters in the future would also be able to promote themselves over here. What fighters in the states need to do is look at Khan as an example. He went to the States and is looking to build a new fanbase, I know his intention initially was to join Roach but this was always the idea. GBP see the bigger picture. A fighter say like Ortiz could come here fight some domestic fighters, do a few chat shows and sell his US fight to broadcasters and the public here
FFS probably no-one....I think the point is If primetime improve and can be competitive and bring good fights it will help us all to see more boxing cheaper.
Ok, lets follow this through. How much do you think it would cost to say put an Ortiz on a non-ppv against a good British fighter several times to build his name in the UK before putting him on ppv channels and showing him round the talk shows. You would have some pretty **** undercards because all your money would go on getting Ortiz or getting another GBP fighter over here and putting him in with a quality British fighter. Promoters would struggle to make a penny.
