He can still be champ, no question. In fact I think he'd dispatch Hartley in short order and run up an envious number of defences.
If he's willing to do it the long way, no shorcuts, no "retiring by the time I'm 25." This would also include leaving Bolton, obviously lots of defence work because you can't do too much for the chin. Maybe work on the legs and the neck. Come back, fight at the national level, before moving onto European. He might as well forget about insignificant records (youngest champion etc...). 21 is pretty young. He should aim for a prime 25-30, which means he's going to need the discipline for another 10 years. If he's not up for it, he should consider stepping out. This was never meant to be an easy profession.
He doesn't come across well does he? I think calling him a **** is a bit over the top though but, in a few years if he manages to play the **** poor competition + unbelievable hype = £££ game I'll call him a **** too. Then again Hatton did that for years and everybody loves him for it. In answer to your question, no he can't be a champion. He may well win a belt with world champion written on it but he'll never get to the very top. Then again ho many with belts do? I can see wbu action ahead, I think the sensible among us saw that from the start anyway.
no doubt he will win a world title, worse fighters than khan have won one of those alphebit soup straps. However i think he will take a couple more L's before than because the problem is he is not mature yet, hasn't got a boxing brain and is still fighting in that ameteur style which is why he feels comfortable with Rubio because he trains him like mick jelly used to. the positive thing is all his weakness a fixable (the chin with a good defence) and he is still very young and able to adapt if he gets a world class pro coach, good sparring, learns to fight to his strengths and most importantly gets a defence, maybe he could ask james toney to lend him that philly shell
unless he get the WBU or some **** i cant see him holding onto it, theres loads of journeyman like prescott who he'd have to defed it to
you think arthur or gavin rees would beat khan? 2 reasent "world champs" if yes how one KO changes everything...
khan would beat gavin rees, gavin rees is **** see what i mean gavin rees couldnt hold onto the belt for more than one fight.. he lost it in his first defence.. if khan gets the WBO, WBC, IBF, or WBA, theres loads of unknown hard hitting lightweights and hes gonna have to defend it 1. Joan Guzman 2. Amir Khan 3. Anthony Peterson 4. Juan Diaz 5. Michael Katsidis 6. Jorge Terron 7. Urbano Antillon 8. Jose Reyes 9. Ali Funeka they're the rankings for the WBO, if khan got the WBO, he'd have to beat them boys to keep hold of it
my point and the title of the tread is can still be "world champ" and the answer is yes, i don't how anyone can say he can't grab one of those alphebet soup straps when rees had one. however your right defending it is a whole different story thats why a appreciate the 20 and 21 defences of calzaghe and hopkins when people said they fought no1. consistency is the hardes thing in this great sport and they had bad nights, but got the job done.
