The amount of hate for Amit Khan is redicuous. people calling him a hype job is just ******ed. Here's why he deserves respect. Let e know your thoughts on any of my points. 1) He's reached the level where he earns over a million a fight, yet unlike most fighters who reach that point and star cherry picking he is constantly looking to fight the best. He's one one of the few boxers in the sport who genuinely seems to care about legacy and not just money. He passionately taks about creating a unified champion, taking all the belts, then moving up in weight. 2) He is the main money attraction but gave away alot of money to Peterson and agreed to fight him in his home town just to get the fight done. Even though Khan was the Champion, Peterson wouldn't fight him otherwise. 3) He has an impressive record for being early in his career. He fought Miadana when everyone said he would never go near him. He went toe to toe with him. He has a very under rated victory over Kotelnik, winning nearly every round. He completely shut out Malignaggi which cotto couldnt do He has very underrated performance against Judah where he made him Quit and look old (and recent performance from Judah suggests anything but) 4) He did everything he could to make the Bradley fight Happen. 5) He gets over criticized for his loss to peterson. The Organisations ordered an immediate rematch for a reason. The 2 point deductions were disgraceful. I get that he comes across cocky and unlkable in interviews. But his attitude to the sport is a blessing. We need more fighters like Amir Khan. He's like a throw back to De La Hoya Character. He will take all challenges, and he is in exciting fight after exciting fight. So why so much Hate????
Yes. I'd say Muslims in general have more racism towards them than any other race/religion in the western world. Even people that claim they aren't racist will judge a muslim even for a moment. there extremist have been in the media for years as the enemy.
Quite possible. Even earlier. He has the game plan straight off the bat this time. But it doesn't change a thing. Khan will still be a warrior that deserves respect.
and even as a kid growing up. ****stani would be the butt alot of childish jokes, making fun of the accents etc. I personally grew out of that, but alot of people didn't.
Here is my opinion on this subject, quickly before I go out. I hadn't been too fond of Khan since just before he turned professional. He signed with ******, and ****** paid the great Mario Kindelan off to lose in a televised amateur bout on ITV. This annoyed me big time. Anyway, he got all this promotion as an early professional, which was understandable...but he started believing the hype, and instead of working on things...he thought he could just blow people away with his speed. His attitude started changing also. Then came Prescott, and it was a blessing in disguise. He put his head down, moved to the Wild Card with Roach, and he started learning, and improving. I was massively impressed by his performance against Malignaggi, he made a fan of me that night. His attitude was a lot more humble also. He stepped in with a dangerous opponent in Maidana and he was again impressive for the most part. Got caught, but still came back. But then his attitude started changing again, started believing the hype again. He hasn't shown any real improvement in a number of bouts now, hasn't really listened to Roach in the corner. I wanted Khan to beat Peterson, and I thought Peterson was a good challenge at this stage in Khan's career. I had Peterson winning the first bout, but it was after the bout that Khan has kind of lost a fan in me. He moaned and moaned, cried and cried, accused Peterson, the judges, the man in the hat...he threw the blame at everyone, when really, it was him who threw that bout away. Whereas, Peterson, who has an amazing story outside of boxing, remained calm, humble, gracious in victory...won a fan in me. I am neutral going in to this rematch though. I don't mind cocky, arrogant boxers, but when they have reached a level where they can be cocky...for example Mayweather. Now I don't like Mayweather's personality, but he has backed his ego and arrogance up in the ring by reaching the very top of the sport, and remaining there...so I can deal with that. Khan has yet to do that. Although it's a good sign that he wants to take challenges and fight the best.
1. HE does try to fight the best generally, although was protected from a few on the way up, didn't chase a Prescott rematch and doesn't want a Brook fight 2. Why do you think Peterson wouldn't fight him otherwise? The reasoning was that their was a ****stani community in Peterson's hometown so it would sell 3. Some good wins granted 4. Fair enough he did, now he says he doesn't want it unless he gets the majority purse though 5. No they weren't disgraceful he kept breaking the rules because he couldn't fight on the inside
What o you mean by not being real? Peterson's cool en all but he's about the money. As is Bradley. THey come across as cool dudes. But peterson turned down numerous offers from Khan. Even though Khan had the belt. ******ed. In boxing if a champion offers you a chance to fight for the bet you take it regardless. Khan makes money but its about legacy for him and proving haterz wrong
This is all true but Khan would have loads more fans if he didn't come across as egocentric and if he was put on national/sky TV instead of jumping into PPV because of his high demand for big purses. He's now a minority sports figure because he went PPV far too early
Even the people that really dislike him, will admit that they'd rather have him in the sport, than not. He brings a lot of hype, is exciting, vulnerable, etc, and in the two years he's spent in the US, he's had two back-to-back FOTY candidates. But as a fan, I have to admit that his attitude post-Peterson has understandably put a lot of people off him. Those that didn't have a good reason to hate him before, certainly do now. And because of that, perhaps he only has himself to blame for the lack of respect he's been recieving lately.
1. "he doesn't want a brook fight"? say that when they are in the same weight class. you think he should have vacated his titles & foregone any attempts to unify the division cos some guy whose best win is matthew hatton called him out? 2. peterson turned down the fight when it was supposed to be in the uk. turned down a career high payday apparently. that's how he ended up facing mccloskey. khan made concessions to get that fight done. which he didn't have to do.
